SUSAN CHOMIAK
Born: Jun 15, 1930
Date of Passing: Oct 23, 2016
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySUSAN CHOMIAK Peacefully, after a brief illness, Susan Chomiak passed into the arms of the Lord on October 23, 2016. Determined, intelligent, and loving mother of Katherine, David, and Carol (Gerry); grandmother of Chelsea (Blake), Rhett, Peyton, Tomas, and Michael; and sister of Frances; she is also survived by in-laws Iris Evers, Frank Miziolek, and Tony Caruk, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her father and mother, Joseph and Mary Evaskavich, her husband Walter, sister Violet, brother Walter, and by Rita Chomiak. Susan was born in Winnipeg on June 15, 1930, and grew up in the St Andrews Rossdale area and Winnipeg. From her earliest years when she babysat for the family until her eighties, Susan looked after people. An avid reader, she never stopped learning and she never stopped loving. That meant teaching her children to sing in harmony. That meant specialties in the kitchen like her famous holupchi, apple pie, and turkey meatballs. That meant promoting Winnipeg as the best place in the world to live. That meant visiting people who were sick in hospital regardless of the long bus ride. That meant faith and regular church attendance. She was a forty-year member of the UCWL and loved to help cater events at Holy Eucharist. Susan loved birds and butterflies. She never missed a birthday or special occasion for anyone in the family. Up until the last day of her life, she was the family statistician and could cite any date, name, or historical fact that was asked of her. At the age of 84, she took up the game of Scrabble and played every day for two years. She would take on anyone and could still beat any challenger who could play. Cousin Donna called Susan an angel, and people who knew her felt likewise. After a lifetime of caring, she passed away at Seven Oaks Hospital. On her last day of life, she phoned family and friends to thank them and to tell them she loved them. She passed away with family by her side. Susan would like to thank Meals on Wheels, and the staff at Concordia and Seven Oaks Hospital. She also wants to give a special thanks to Francis Evers, Pauline Boyko, Jean Stewart, Morris and Irene Mazur, Cornelia and Gail, and Home Care, who made her life at home a blessing. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Susan's memory to a charity of your choice. Funeral Divine Liturgy was celebrated by Rev. Dr. Michael Kwiatkowski, JCOD, at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 28 at Holy Eucharist Ukrainian Catholic Parish, 505 Watt St., followed by interment at All Saints Cemetery. My heartfelt sympathy to you David, and your family on the passing of your Mum. It is such a lonely feeling to find that, with this passing, you are now lifted to the position of the male elder of the family, trusted to carry on family connections, traditions, and responsibilities. I know that I was at a loss last year when this happened to me.My heart was breaking at the loss and yet I was expected to lead and now set the tone to provide a type of leadership in carrying on. So many day to day things occur where you think, I have to share this with Mum, and then the reality keeps hitting you in the face that you cannot do that ever again. May God be with you at this difficult time.I will say a Rosary for your family tonight, as I am sure many others who loved your Mother will do. Susan was our daughter's Godmother. We enjoyed spending time with Sue & Walter before we moved to Kelowna, B.C. and visited them when we were in Wpg. after that. She was a very special lady and will not be forgotten. Our thoughts are with all of her family at this very sad and difficult time. Love Judy, Ken and family. - Posted by: ken & judy evers and family ( Ken's 1st cousin ) on: Oct 28, 2016

Not that long ago Mrs. Chomiak and I had a great conversation at a family gathering. Articulate, charming and genuine she recanted details of a story I had long since forgotten. She was a wonderful lady. Our deepest condolences to you at this difficult time ~ love from Neil, Shirley, Nelson & Garnet - Posted by: The Ball ~ Leontowicz Family (friend) on: Oct 26, 2016
