I am deeply saddened by this news. I worked with Marley, at the federal Department of Justice, when I first started out as a young lawyer, and for a number of years after that. Although he was, generally, a quiet person, Marley was easy to talk to and had a great sense of humour. He was an excellent lawyer and also an excellent mentor - I learned a lot from him about how to be a good lawyer. My heartfelt condolences to Brenda and the boys and the rest of his family. I hope you find comfort in the happy memories you have of Marley. - Posted by: Pam Clarke (Colleague and friend) on: Nov 14, 2016

I worked on a few files with Marley when he worked for the DOJ and always found him the consummate professional and a genuinely nice person. I often think of Marley and how he thoughtfully pursued his work. However, not far from his mind was his family and home. - Posted by: Doug McLean, Director CRA Winnipeg (Colleague) on: Nov 12, 2016

I first met Marley when he moved with his parents to a farm in Tyndall in the sixties where I grew up. Moving into the seventies we were involved in all kinds of “social events“ which we will not get into here. We both had a penchant for enjoying life, inquisitive minds, as well as the hands on part required in farming and building stuff, very important for some guys. We both entered the U of M at the same time in 1970, myself in Engineering and he focusing on Law. There are many memories. This is one. Somewhere back in the seventies, together with my brother Barry, a self proclaimed car dealer and antiquarian, we restored a 1949 Jaguar Mark V at my parent's farm in a chicken house hastily converted to a shop with a hole chopped into the wall to get the vehicle inside. It was a huge automobile about twenty feet long. We scrapped enough rust off it to build a VW. And it still tipped the scales at two tons. The chickens, frustrated by lack of attention all moved outside. The restored Jag was a beauty, new two tone blue paint, light blue leather upholstery, sweeping fenders, large chrome headlamps and polished grill with the famous Jaguar emblem on top, a lot like an old Rolls. It even came with a “party kit” in the trunk which we made good use of. Some call it a picnic kit. We each took turns driving it around the countryside, one wearing a motorcycle cap as chauffeur while the other two sat in the back as “Royalty” While this is a very sad time and loss for his family and the folks who knew Marley, I think its important to remember the good times we all had with him. “Enjoy the little things for one day you may look back and discover they were the big things” Vale, mi amice Wayne Winkler, Vancouver - Posted by: wayne winkler (friend) on: Nov 12, 2016

I am so deeply saddened to hear this news. My heartfelt condolences to Brenda and the children and all his family. It has been several years since I had seen Marley but my memories of him from the years we worked together at the federal Department of Justice remain vivid. He was such a joy to work with, always calm and measured. And such a sense of humour...I can barely remember a conversation that didn't involve laughter. From Fridays at the Woody to the legendary breathylyzer contest between him and me over a vacated office, to just everyday interaction, my years at Justice are filled with memories of the Dash man. He will always be remembered for the intelligent, kind funny man he was. - Posted by: Kim Prost (Friend and Collegue) on: Nov 12, 2016

Our paths crossed often during the course of our career. He was a brilliant lawyer, very thorough, made sure that all the "t's" were crossed and the "I's" dotted. He treated all with compassion and dignity. He was a professional with always good direction. My thoughts and prayers are with the Family, Friends and his Colleagues. Rest in peace. - Posted by: Nuno Camara (Friend) on: Nov 12, 2016

This came as an incredible shock to me. I spent a few moments the other day trying to remember how many curling bonspiels I played in with Marley, and I can't even come up with a number. What I do remember is his outlook on the game, it was always positive, whether we were up or down. The times when I wasn't playing with him, I would still seek him out upstairs at the club, grab a beverage and swap a few stories. He was a great person to have a chat with, always interested in what I had to say. He would ask questions, and it was always a rousing discussion. I will always fondly remember his laugh, it was such a hearty one. Farewell buddy. - Posted by: Shane Ward (Friend) on: Nov 10, 2016
