WILMA NOWOSAD 1934 - 2016 Wilma Nowosad passed away peacefully at the age of 82 with family by her side on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 after a brief, but courageous, battle with cancer. Mourning her are her sons Robert (Lori) and Dennis (Andrea), her grandchildren Dani, Josh and Aubrey and her family in Europe. She is predeceased by her husband, Walter, mother (Anna), father (Valentin) and siblings (Doris, Inge, Gertrude, Bertolt). Wilma was born in Trienz, Germany on May 17, 1934 as the first of eight children. As the eldest of eight children, she contributed greatly to the running of the household and helped care for her many siblings. As a young adult, Wilma trained to become a seamstress and worked at Hudson's Bay Company in Mosbach, Germany for several years. She met her future husband, Walter, in 1958 and, following a brief courtship, Wilma took a leap of faith and left for a new life abroad in 1959. Once in Canada, Wilma continued to work as a seamstress at the Freed & Freed factory in downtown Winnipeg for seven years, while also helping Walter build their dream home in St. Andrews. Together, they made fast friends with fellow immigrants following similar dreams. She learned English without any formal schooling and quickly adapted to life in Canada. Following the birth of her first son, Robert, in 1966, Wilma took on the role of homemaker, which included tending to their house, garden and considerable acreage. After a decade of enjoyment, the Nowosads decided to move to Charleswood in 1972 and, four years later, her second son, Dennis, was born in 1976. While raising her sons and taking care of the family, Wilma continued her passion for yard work and gardening. She cooked and baked delicious food for family and friends, helped with homework, cheered on the Winnipeg Jets and loved spending time with her grandchildren. Thank you for being a generous wife, mother and Oma to our family, setting a tremendous example for us all. We love you and will forever keep your memory alive. We are deeply thankful to our wonderful neighbours, friends and families for their amazing support. We'd also like to extend special thanks to Dr. Dubyna, Dr. Wong and the nurses and aides at St. Boniface hospital for their efforts over the past few weeks, as well as to Monsignor Comeault, Heather and the parishioners of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church and Rick Kotaska from Seasons Funeral Service.A funeral mass will be held for Wilma at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church (4588 Roblin Blvd.) on Monday, November 21, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. CST. In lieu of flowers, please make all donations payable to the Cancer Care Manitoba in Wilma's honour. www.seasonsfunerals.ca
