MARY-ELLEN YOUNGER June 27, 1927 - December 13, 2016 In the comfort of her home with family by her side, Mary-Ellen Younger passed away on Tuesday December 13, 2016. Mary-Ellen was predeceased by her husband Robert Lloyd Younger, parents William and Annie Finlan, siblings Joe Finlan, Eugene Bowes, Tony Finlan, and Frank Finlan. She will be deeply missed by her children and grandchildren, son Michael Younger, daughter Margaret McKinnon (Robert, Anna, John) daughter Catherine Allard and husband Alex (Terry, Tonya, Jeff, Paul, Melissa, Joey), son William Younger and wife Pat (Tyler, Matthew), and numerous great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her sibling's sister Mildred Buelow and husband Alf, brother Pat Finlan and wife Mary, sister Annie LaCroix, sister Lila Rokosh and husband Ed, along with many nieces and nephews. Mary-Ellen was born in Winnipeg. She attended St Alphonsis school and finished her education at commercial school. She met Robert (Lloyd) Younger at a party the day he had returned home from the war. They were married shortly after, and raised their family in North Kildonan. They enjoyed spending time at their farm in Beausejour. Mary-Ellen's family was her love and passion. It didn't matter if you were family or friend, she would welcome you. She loved helping others, and would relish in spending time with people. Family dinner could consist of up to 70 people. Mary-Ellen's other great passion was her prior career at the Winnipeg Police Service Dispatch. She was one of the first to answer 999 calls on this continent. She was integral in establishing 911 and the Poison Control Centre in Winnipeg. She was also the first female Supervisor in the Police Dispatch Department, and Director of the Police Association representing the communications centre. You are lucky if you have had the good fortune to know Mary- Ellen. She touched many lives, and will be greatly missed by all. We love you. A private family interment will occur at a later date.   • I was fortunate to have worked with Mary at the Winnipeg Police Service where I had great respect for her. Her wisdom and knowledge was measured next to none during those times.
