LYDIA HRABEC (nee KOSMOLAK) Peacefully on Monday, December 19, 2016, at the Parkview Place Long Term Care Home in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Lydia Hrabec, aged 94 years, passed away. Lydia was predeceased by her husband Michael; daughter Marlene; son-in-law Leonard; grandson Lane; parents Fred and Anna; sisters Minnie, Lena, and brother John. She is survived by her grandchildren Melody (Fred), Lori (Ashot) and Michael (Tammy); great-grandchildren Cody, Madison, Brittany, Mikayla, and Matthew; great-great-grandson Grayson; sister Luba, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Lydia retired from Simpson Sears in 1985 where she had worked for many years in the cash office. As a teenager, Lydia had a love for music and even played the guitar in an all girls band. Her other interests later expanded to gardening, travelling, playing cards with her family and friends, bowling at Rossmere Bowling Lanes, and especially reading Harlequin romance novels. Baba was well known for her famous jellied salad, which everyone looked forward to having. A special thank you to Fred, her neighbours: John and Georgina, and friend Cathy for their help and support throughout the years. We would also like to extend our thanks to the staff at Parkview Nursing Home for their care of our Baba during her last few weeks. Cremation has taken place and a private interment will be held at Brookside Cemetery in Winnipeg where Lydia will be laid to rest with her late husband Michael. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society or to Darcy's ARC. Goodbye Baba, from all your Zabas!
