MARIA BEVACQUA (ROMANO) August 18, 1926 - December 19, 2016 Suddenly, but peacefully, we announce the passing of our dear mother, Maria, at the age of 90, on Monday, December 19 with her loving family by her side. Mom was predeceased by her loving husband of 68 years, Domenico and her sister and brother-in-law Concetta and Bruno Nirta, her brothers-in-law Carmelo Alecci and Guiseppe Barbaro. Mom is survived by her children, Anna (Reg) Faulkes, Liz (Michael) Horne, Bruno (Adele) Bevacqua, Josie (Wolf) Fink; as well as 10 grandchildren, Lisa (Gino) Giannuzzi, Gina (Mark) Morais, Jeff Faulkes, Sharlene (Nick) Pineault, Christopher (Sandy) Bevacqua, Adam Fink, Samantha (Desmond) Anderson, Jennifer (Stu) Smith, Jocelyn (Matt) Bevacqua and Joel Bevacqua. She is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren, Noah and Dante, Alexia and Brianna, Chantel and Joshua, Spencer and Piper, Charlotte and Mara, and Safa. Mom is also survived by her brother Dino Romano and family; sister Giuditta Corigliano and family; her sisters-in-law, Immacolata Baggio and family and Maria Termini and family all of Italy, her brother Domenico Romano and family; and her sisters, Rosa Alecci and family, Immacolata Barbaro and family and Natalina Zappia and family, the Nirta family of London, Ont. Mom was always lending a helping hand and babysitting for her children and her siblings' children. As the family continued to grow, with the births of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she looked forward to preparing Sunday dinners for everyone. Her house was always filled with love and laughter and was like a headquarter of sorts for everyone all through the years. She had a great love of gardening and used to sit in the sunshine in the backyard and watch her "garden grow" every morning and evening. She was the envy of all her friends and neighbors and everyone said that her tomatoes were the best they ever tasted. Eventually The Portsmouth became her home. Mom made many special friends and enjoyed getting together for outings, lunch and dinners with them. Everyone there said that "she lit up the room" when she entered with her lovely smile and taking the time to chat with everyone. While there, Mom also developed a passion for reading novels and would say "that book was so good, I couldn't put it down". Mom was the true meaning of the word "love". She was full of compassion, generosity, humour, sassiness, a wonderful wife and mother, gave selflessly of herself putting others first, and always cared for our well-being with a fierce passion. She gave her advice freely and always made sure that we understood the meaning of "family first". Mom and Dad created a beautiful life for all of us. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Avenue with Fr. Sam Argenziano celebrant. Entombment will follow in the Garden Chapel Mausoleum in Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Ave. Thank you for the Pallbearers, Jeff, Gino, Mark, Joel, Desmond, Stu, Matt, Noah and Dante. As well, thank you to all our friends and relatives for your love and support and to the staff and friends at The Portsmouth. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba.
