CLIFFORD WARREN HINES With deep sadness we announce the passing of Cliff Hines on January 4, 2017. Cliff was predeceased by his parents, Carl and Hilda; siblings Walter, Lloyd, Jean and John (Jack). He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Betty; children, Jim (Karla), Janett (Mike) and Debbie (Kent); grandchildren, Thomas, Joseph, Kyle, Samantha, Sarah, Kelsey, Joshua and Kaden, many nieces and nephews and his dog Bob. Cliff was born April 30, 1939 in Eastern Passage, NS. He was very proud of his United Empire Loyalist heritage and his Maritime roots. He told stories of eating lobster sandwiches and crossing Halifax Harbour by ferry to attend school. He served as an alter boy and cross bearer at the Anglican Church. Cliff learned the value of a days work early, driving a taxi at the age of 14. At 17, he enlisted in the RCAF (Shearwater), beginning a career that would take him across Canada and to Germany. He met and married Betty during his first posting to Gimli. After completing his service in 1976, he accepted the position of Superintendent of Electronic Maintenance with Environment Canada in Winnipeg. There, he had many adventures and made life-long friends with what he called "The Flying Circus" travelling to remote Northern Canada and Madagascar. He retired in 1993 and moved with Betty back to Gimli, enjoying cards, golf and frequent visits from the grandchildren. Cliff had a passion for hockey and baseball, a fan of the Winnipeg Jets and the Toronto Blue Jays and attended many games. He was proud to share his Nova Scotia roots with Sidney Crosby and cheered for the Penguins too. He coached Jim's little league team and umpired games. He had a special place in his heart for horses and dogs, rescuing more than one. We will remember him as a kind hearted, devoted man, as well as the life of every party. Cremation has taken place, a Celebration of Life is planned for the spring. Cliff's family is grateful to all staff at the Gimli Community Health Centre, especially the nurses and Dr. Patel. Also thank you to those who were a source of strength, you know who you are. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Gimli Humane Society. Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
