NELSON DRAPER With great sadness we announce the sudden passing of a kind and gentle man, Nelson Draper, on Sunday January 8, 2017, the day before his 77th birthday. Nelson was a beloved husband and father. He was survived by his wife of 53 years, Carol; sons Chris (Germaine), Cam (Wanda) and Corey (Candace); grandchildren, Matthew, Dakkota, Kennedy and Oliver; brother Ray (Edith) and sisters, Sherri and Jodie (Kevin). He was predeceased by his parents, Nelson and Nellie and granddaughter Mackenzie. A Celebration of Nelson's life will be held on Friday, January 20, 2017 between 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. (with a brief program beginning at 2:00 p.m.) at The First Unitarian Universalist Church of Winnipeg, 603 Wellington Crescent at Academy Road. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Alzheimer's Society, in honor of Nelson, would be appreciated by the family. It's kind of hard to separate the memories between Carol and Nelson. Both were/are big hearted people with an unusual ability to make people feel welcome, at home, and cared about. I knew Carol much better, but Nelson was about the easiest guy to spend time with that I ever met. Unending smiles, laughter and hospitality just oozing our of your pores. I loved how deeply you both cared about others, supremely proud of your children and grand-children and ever loyal to your friends. Carol, it was with great sadness that I learned about Nelson's passing today. What a deep loss for your family. Chris and I are in California so will be unable to attend the service. Carol & family you have out deepest sympathy in the loss of Nelson. He was a great neighbor on his way home from shuffling he always stopped in for a visit . We will miss him. Carol, please accept our sympathy on the passing of Nelson. He was a special guy. The memory of Nelson that comes to mind for Gerry and I is when we wanted to see you guys jive like in your younger days. You obliged and it was great to see.
