KENNETH ALLAN VERPLAETSE August 18, 1944 - January 16, 2017 It is with heavy hearts that we say farewell to our husband, brother, uncle and friend, Ken Verplaetse. Left to cherish Ken's memory are his wife Jeanette (nee Jeanson); sisters, Lillian, Yvonne, Janet (George), Diane (Eddy), Carol (Dave), Margaret (Leon) and brothers, Barry (Eleanore), Don (Marie-Anne) and Phil and numerous nieces and nephews. Ken was predeceased by his father Harry; mother Helen; sisters, Agnes and Shirley and brother Henry. Ken worked as a mechanic at Crawford's Garage and as a carpet installer with Eaton's. Declining health forced him to take early retirement. Ken was an avid follower of the Winnipeg Jets, had a love of cars and enjoyed going to Club Regent Casino. Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Ken's life that will be held at the Belgian Club, 407 Provencher Blvd., on Monday, January 23, 2017 at 2:30 p.m. Our family extends their thanks to the staff of Poseidon Care Centre where Ken was a resident for eight years and to the doctors and staff of the ICU and 4th floor at the Victoria General Hospital. • I have not been in touch with Jeannette for many years but know her love and support for her husband was so strong and a true testament for her character. My thoughts and prayers are with Jeannette and the Verplaetse family. May God's love give you comfort in the days ahead. - Posted by: Connie Michael (friend of Jeannette) on: Jan 22, 2017

  • To Jeannette, my cousins, family and friends: The last time I saw Ken was in 2000 at the Regent Casino, sitting quite comfortably in his wheelchair with a Bingo screen in front of him - of course. When he was a youngster in his element on Dugald Road I would watch him get that twinkle in his eye, and that little smirk on his lips and knew he was planning something... and he most often pulled it off. He never deserved his fate in life and he handled it with grace and dignity. I wish I could be there to share all the stories that will be told at the reception at the "Club" and send love and condolences to the family and all his friends.
