OLHA (OLGA) WOROBY July 10, 1921 - February 2, 2017 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Olha (Olga) Woroby. Olha is survived by her husband of 72 years, Rev. Proto Deacon Michael, son William (Carol), daughters Donna (Robert) and Christine (Reiner); grandchildren: Jennifer (Paul), Nicole (Pedro), Matthew (Krystelle), Brian (Lindyn) and Angela (Nelson); and great-grandchildren: Katherina, Sofia and Alexander, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and relatives in Ukraine. She was predeceased by her parents Roman and Wasylyna Kalyniuk (Rudyk), Maria and Wasyl Woroby, brothers Hnat (Katherine), William (Lydia), sister Stephanie, and relatives in Ukraine. Olha was born in Winnipeg on July 10, 1921 and attended Margaret Scott School, King Edward School, Isaac Newton and then Commercial College. Earlier in her career she worked at the Fort Garry Hotel and at the Manitoba Telephone System as a long-distance operator. She volunteered for March of Dimes (Community Chest), Christmas Seals and the Red Cross. Olha was very proud of her Ukrainian Heritage and had a strong faith which sustained her throughout her life. One such example was the course she studied in pastoral care and subsequently served in that capacity for many years, all the while greatly supporting her husband in his pastoral duties as a deacon. Her passion for dancing also remained throughout her life since she was a former student of the Avramenko Ukrainian Dance School at Prosvita Ukrainian Institute. She served her community well as one of the founding members of the UCWLC of Sts. Volodymyr and Olha Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral, where she held all executive positions for 25 years, from President to visiting the sick, as well as being a long-standing member of the Ukrainian Catholic Women's League of Canada. Olha was also a member of the Holy Family Nursing Home Ladies Auxiliary and served on the Executive and attended several of their fundraising dinners with her daughters, as well as canvassed with the SSMI for the initiative to develop the existing building, founding Holy Family Nursing Home. Dad and Mom enjoyed hosting wonderful dinners with long time friends. Every Christmas they warmly welcomed carollers into their home and the family enjoyed the traditional treat of blueberry perogies. Throughout her life, she travelled with Michael to numerous countries and accompanied him and the O. Koshetz choir on many tours including South America, Europe and Ukraine. In 1988 she accompanied her husband and daughter Donna to Yugoslavia and Rome with the Millennium choir. Olga always maintained a positive attitude despite of many medical challenges and provided this legacy and role model for her family. The most precious moments of her life were spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Dr. Terry Babick, Dr. Andrea Babick and Dr. Patel for their compassionate care. We are also grateful for the special attention of Unit 12, Seven Oaks Hospital staff. We thank all family and friends who supported us during this difficult time. Flowers are respectfully declined, Liturgies would be appreciated for the repose of Olha's soul; or donations to the Renovations Foundation of Sts. Volodymyr and Olha Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral, 115 McGregor Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R2W 4V6, http://www.stsvladimirandolgacathedral.ca/about-us/church/donations/ and the Lubov SSMI Foundation, 1085 Main Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R2W 1T9, phone: 204-942-0443, info@lubovfoundation.ca. Funeral Divine Liturgy will be celebrated by Rt. Rev. Msgr. Mitrat Michael Buyachok, Rev. Fr. Isidore Dziadyk OSBM and Rev. Fr. Volodymyr Bashutskyy on Friday, February 10, 10:30 a.m. at Sts. Volodymyr and Olha Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral, 115 McGregor Street. Interment to follow at All Saints Cemetery.
