LEONARD DAVID It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of Leonard David who, after 92 years of an inspiring life, peacefully departed on Monday, February 13, 2017 at the Sunnywood Manor with his loving family by his side. In 1947, he married Katherina Friesen (deceased). He was very fond of animals, especially his dogs who loved him. For many years he was President of the Victoria Beach Royal Canadian Legion, and served as a firefighter with the VB Fire Department. A lifelong entrepreneur, Leonard started off as a child selling eggs with his brothers to neighbours in the community. For 40 years, he operated one of the largest mink ranches in Canada which won many awards for his prized pelts. Leonard was a store owner, and worked many years as a commercial fisherman on Lake Winnipeg. Later in life he became a successful property developer, founding a number of neighbourhoods in and around the beaches. When he wasn't providing for his family, Leonard indulged in his many passions; curling, hockey and watching wrestling were his favorite. As well, we'd like to remark on grandson Rick for moving to the beach to help care for his grandfather, his dogs and home. He was renown for his quick wit, and often uttered his favorite phrase "Like Heck!" Despite his remarkable successes in both personal and business life, Leonard remained humble and modest while being the most kind and generous person we've ever known. Love you forever. The Bowles family has been part of the summer community at Victoria Beach for near 75 years. I vividly remember my parents, and then my generation filled with respect and admiration for those, in those days, called Permanent Residents --- those folk who made Victoria Beach home. No family would be higher on the respect and admiration list than the David family. And no one in the David family has more respect and admiration than Leonard David. I recall being shown around his mink farm and meeting him down on the pier as well as in the store. He was always kind. A giant of a man in so many ways. On behalf of the Bowles family, from our family to the David family, we extend condolences. He will be missed. - Posted by: Sheldon Bowles (Admirer of the David family ) on: Feb 16, 2017

On behalf of the Lees family, I would like to express my sincere condolences on Leonard's passing. I have a vivid memory of Leonard once rescuing us, when our truck was stuck deep in the mud, on the Johnson Homestead Road, when I was a very little kid. Without Leonard's help, we never would have gotten out! He and the entire David family were people my family has always liked and respected. He was a part of our special memories of Victoria Beach. - Posted by: Georgia Lees Klass (Daughter of Danny Lees, a friend of Leonard) on: Feb 16, 2017
