ELLEN KATHERINE WAY (nee PALMER) April 20, 1925 - February 19, 2017 Ellen passed away peacefully with family by her side at Concordia Place Personal Care Home at the age of 91. Left to cherish her memory are her children Gayle (Jim) Marcheen, Murray (Donna) of Edmonton, AB., Marjorie, Norm (Leslie), Bob (Tammy), Gary (Sonyia) of Prince George, B.C. Mum also leaves nine grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by Sister Elsie Green of Melita, MB.; brother Bill Palmer (Dorothy) of Souris, MB.; sister-in-law Pauline Palmer of Brandon, MB.; brother-in-law Russell Way (Bernice) of Saskatoon, SK. and numerous nieces and nephews. Ellen was predeceased by her husband Les in 2002, her parents, Robert and Nellie (Palmer), brother John Palmer, brother-in-law Murray Green; brothers and sisters-in-law Roy and Margaret Way, Harvey and Dorothy Way, Bernice and Alex McKenzie. Mum was born in the Municipality of Arthur on April 20, 1925 near Waskada, MB. After working as a teacher near home, she moved to Ninette, MB. to work in the sanitorium, where she met and married her husband Les in 1952. They resided in Ninette, Brandon, and Winnipeg, MB. during their 51 years of marriage. Les and Ellen took pride in raising their family, enjoying camping and many trips to Pelican Lake. Ellen was a loving, and nurturing wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She had a way of including everyone and making them feel welcome. She never ceased to amaze us with her determination after her hip and knee replacements in her later years, and continued to live joyfully through the daily and weekly visits with friends and family. The family would like to thank the 4th floor staff at Concordia Place and a special thanks to HCA's Dave and Hazel. A private memorial service has taken place. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Concordia Place Personal Care Home. E.J. COUTU & CO. FUNERAL DIRECTORS 680 Archibald Street 204-253-5086 ejcoutu.com

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • I was blessed to know Ellen throughout the entire final chapter of her life. Ellen loved her family dearly and made many friends at Concordia Place. She used to call me the Juice Man because I would make up excuses to refill her cup with Apple Juice. She was a beautiful woman who will be missed. May she rest in peace. - Posted by: Jeffrey (Caregiver) on: Mar 09, 2017

  • Sorry to hear of your moms passing Bob. Nice to see you had her with you for many years. - Posted by: Normasharpe486@yahoo.ca (Niece to Tammy) on: Feb 27, 2017

  • To the Way family. I was so sorry to hear about your Mom's passing. She was a wonderful cheerful woman with an infectious laugh. I remember the chaos in your house the odd time we got to play inside. I think she actually enjoyed it. I thought it was pretty cool that our parents spent time together after the kids were grown and gone, and how they kept in touch after the move to Winnipeg. May she rest in peace after a full life. God Bless. - Posted by: Helen Forsyth (Schick) (Neighbor in Brandon) on: Feb 25, 2017
