EMILY RAGNHEIDUR HENDRY April 17, 1927 - February 24, 2017 Mom passed away peacefully, with family at her side and gospel music playing. It was so very difficult saying goodbye to our beautiful, kind mother, who gave her family and everyone she knew so much love. Mom was born to parents Eidur and Asta Johnson in Piney, MB. Mom was second youngest and had seven sisters, Pauline, Laura, Sigrun, Lilja, Runa, Gwen, Anna, and one brother, Sig. Mom moved to Selkirk at age 17, met our Dad, Bill Hendry and married him at 19. Emily and Bill were married for 57 years. Mom and Dad had nine children, Sharon Schreyer (Lloyd), Bill Jr., Gordon (Donna), Susanne, Ian (Wendy), Mark, Kerry (Mary), Nena Dawne and Collin. Mom was predeceased by Dad, Bill Jr., Mark, Susanne and Collin. It was her strong faith in God that sustained Mom throughout her life and the many trials and tribulations she endured. Mom had 10 grandchildren whom she adored. Nick Shiels (Charlene), Tannis Tataryn, Craig Tataryn, Kelly Gislason (Joe), Charna Grexton (Cody), Ryan Hendry (Kaija), Trevor Hendry, Ashley Moore (Adam), Joe Sinclair and Tyson Sinclair. The joy of her life were her great-grandchildren, Lilja, Mitchell, Magnus, Kristjan, Logan, Emma, Xander and Landon. Mom is also survived by her sister-in-law, Ida Hendry, brother-in-law, Ian Hendry, plus many nieces and nephews, whom she loved very much. We always said, Mom was like a cat with nine lives (she was a cat lover). Over the last three years, Mom struggled with many health issues but always overcame them until her passing. Mom's strength always amazed us!! Mom was very proud of being of Icelandic origin and visited Iceland twice over time. She also loved her small town of Piney and its people. There was hardly ever a conversation where this was not mentioned. It was always a source of humour, as to how long it would take Mom to say "Piney". Mom had a passion for reading. Her daughter-in-law Mary could not keep up with bringing her books, as she read so quickly. She also loved country music and the Grand Ole Opry. Mom's walls were always covered with family pictures, the more you brought, the happier she was, showed the pictures to all and constantly bragged about her family. We are all going to miss her hugs, kisses, bright eyes and smile. Mom made us all feel very special. Special thanks to the staff at Red River Place, especially Dr. Lindenschmidt, nurses Lee and Sheri, and aides Michael and Shirley. Special thanks also to Palliative Care staff at Selkirk General Hospital, Dr. Cynthia and nurses, Ashley, Allison, Lori and Sarah, with special mention to Dr. Ian Alexander. The family also would like to thank Rev. Anthon Bouw for all his prayers, visits and healing words. Cremation has taken place and service will be held at Gilbart Funeral Home, 309 Eveline St., Selkirk, MB, on Friday, March 3, 2017 at 1:00 p.m., with Rev. Anton Bouw officiating. A private family interment will be held at a later date. Flowers gratefully declined. If so desired, donations may be made to Salvation Army or Palliative Care, Selkirk General Hospital. Condolences may be left at www.gilbartfuneralhome.com Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. (204) 482-3271
