Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOSEPH CHARLES (CARL) VAN BUREN October 25, 1928 February 24, 2017 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear father and brother, Joseph Charles (Carl) Van Buren on Friday, February 24, 2017. Carl is survived by three children, daughters, Cynthia Zimmerman (Edgar Arsenault) of Stony Plain, AB and Cathy Van Buren; son Paul Van Buren; three grandchildren, Alanna Van Buren, Christina Tarrant, Daniel (Corrine) Tarrant of Airdrie, AB and one great-granddaughter Ashlynn Oakes. He is also survived by his brother Hugh Van Buren of Ottawa and sister JoAnn Greisman. He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Bluebell; siblings, George, Brian and Beryl and his son-in-law Henry Zimmerman. Carl grew up in Norwood and attended Holy Cross School and Norwood Collegiate. In his younger years, Pop was a chef in the family restaurant Van Buren's Snack Bar which later became Van Buren's Restaurant. His experience in the kitchen led to a career on the DEW Line, first as a cook then as a chef and eventually working his way up to station supervisor. He retired in 1993. Over the past decade, Dad had been actively involved in the Adamar and the DelMar Seniors Association. Pop had many interests including photography, playing cards, drawing caricatures and baking, but most of all, he loved his family and looked forward to family visits and get-togethers. He had a special relationship with his brother George and grieved his loss deeply. Now, the two of them are reunited. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and chaplain at the Health Sciences Centre ICU for their care and compassion. Cremation has taken place. To remember Pop, an informal gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Winnipeg, 603 Wellington Crescent at Academy Road. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba or a charity of one's choosing. INTEGRITY CREMATION & FUNERAL PLANNING 204-295-5408 integritydeathcare.com

You were loved so deeply and are missed greatly by Daniel and myself, and of course, all your friends and loved ones. We wish that you could've met Baby Tarrant in May! We know how excited you were for this grandchild, and that he/she has an extra guardian angel watching over them now. All our love, may you rest in peace always. - Posted by: Corrine Tarrant (Granddaughter) on: Mar 03, 2017
