Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEDNA ELIZABETH NICKEL It is with saddened hearts that the family of Edna Nickel announces the passing of our beloved sister and aunty, on Friday, March 3, 2017, at her residence in Ashern, at the age of 96 years. Aunty Edna was born on February 6, 1921, in Grahamdale, MB. She ran the family farm with her brother Lawrence in Grahamdale, where they resided until they retired in 1998 and moved to Ashern. Aunty Edna will always be remembered for her personal birthday greetings, which included a card in the mail, and a phone call on your special day, complete with "Happy Birthday" being sung on the other end by her. She loved each of her nieces and nephews as if they were her own children, and was forever asking about how her "kids's" were doing. She loved playing cribbage with her friends, and was usually found playing cards at the Legion or the Manor, until her health no longer permitted her to do so. Edna is survived by her brothers Lawrence, Billy (Elrose), and Norman (Ruth); nieces and nephews Dennis (Jan), Al (Diane), Carol (Joe), Kenneth (Coreen), Brian (Deborah), Karen, Kim (Chris), Cheryl, Greg, Lori (Ralph), Shannon (Carey), Cory (Darla), Darren, Brent (Candy), and numerous great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Reinhold and Olga, and siblings Alma (Bill), Clarence (Mary) and Herbie. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 10, 2017 at the Ashern Legion Hall with Rev. Gregory W. A. Saar officiating. Interment will follow in the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service at the hall. Pallbearers are Cory Nickel, Greg Nickel, Dennis Frohwerk, Al Frohwerk, Brian Nickel and Kenneth Nickel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ashern Personal Care Home, c/o Darlene Hargot, PO Box 110, Ashern, MB R0C 0E0.
