RICK JOHNSON It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rick Johnson after a courageous battle with Cancer on Friday, March 17, 2017. Throughout this battle, he kept a positive outlook on life and remained selfless, always continuing to put others first. Rick will be sadly missed by Debbie, his beloved bride of 27 years, his children: Kris (Jen) and Kaitlin (Brad), mother Betty, siblings Geoffrey (Krista) and Keith (Colleen), nieces Kristin, Chandra, Danielle and Samantha, his little buddy Charlie, as well as many other family members and friends. Rick was born in 1962, in Exeter, Ontario. His family eventually settled in Winnipeg where in 1988, he met his bride and they were married in 1989. They raised their family in the RM of Springfield. It is here where his passion for firefighting and giving back to his community flourished and he felt a kinship with his brothers at the fire hall. Prior to his illness, Rick worked at Melnick Motors in Beausejour. When he wasn't in Springfield, he enjoyed time relaxing at the lake with family and friends. Rick was very proud of his children and never missed an opportunity to share this with anyone. He loved socializing and spent many hours conversing over a Coors Lite! His family would like to thank Springfield Fire Rescue Services, the many friends and neighbours for their generosity in the form of visits, meals, yard maintenance and support throughout this difficult time. We would also like to thank Dr. Harlos and Denise from CancerCare and the staff at Health Sciences Centre GA5 for their care and compassion, and always bringing a smile to Rick. As per Rick's wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will take place on Friday, March 24, 2017. A very casual come and go reception will be at the Springfield Fire Rescue Station, 62091 Highway 206, Oak Bank, Manitoba from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Never Alone Foundation, https://neveralonefoundation.ca/ or Children's Rehabilitation Foundation, https://crf.mb.ca/ in Rick's memory. seasonsfunerals.ca

Condolences & Memories (5 entries)

  • We met Deb and Rick and family at the campsite and also spent a week in Mexico with them and friends. We will always remember Rick's happy go lucky attitude, his love for Deb and his kids and his always being there to help out. It was Rick and Tom who were planning how to build our new deck long before we even thought about it! Take care Deb and family. You are in our thoughts and prayers and we will never forget all the good things that made Rick who he was. - Posted by: Lorraine Streve Alex and Duke () on: Mar 25, 2017

  • Rick and Deb, one of our best friends. We have known Rick for almost 39 years. We attended Rick and Deb's wedding 27 years ago and yes Rick, as he always called Deb his beautiful bride and yes she is that. We became neighbors one summer when camping in Beausejour. Ever since then Rick and Tom became worker buddies, and of course Carl, were inseparable. Any job that needed doing for anyone and everyone, they were there with tools in hand, beers in pockets and off they went! Deb and I would just shake our heads! When there was no more work to be done in Beausejour, Tom and I decided to move on to bigger and better places, Lac du Bonnet was the new destination, but how were we going to tell Rick and Deb? After meeting up with them and told them the news, Rick's exact words were "When are we leaving?" "Would you like to know where?" "Doesn't matter, we're coming! So off we all went to our new home away from home, for what was to be our new place of peace! The work continued as we all went to work, and boy did we work! When all was done we spent many hours sitting on our deck, a booming fire going and enjoying our time together with lots of laughs and yes over a few Coor's Light! Rick, we love you, will miss you and you will never be forgotten. We have many memories. Deb, Kaitlin, Kris and little buddy Charlie, we Love you dearly and we're so sorry for your loss. Love, Tom, Linda and family - Posted by: Tom and Linda Edwards (Friends) on: Mar 24, 2017

  • My deepest sympathies to Deb and the family. I always appreciated Rick's kind words and support. I had the pleasure of serving with Rick on the SFRS, witnessing first hand on countless occasions his commitment to his community and brotherhood at the Hall. I'll always remember his visits to the shop and the laughs we shared. Rest in Peace my friend. - Posted by: Jeff Mensies (Friend) on: Mar 22, 2017

  • I know I just met you a few years ago, but you were an awesome neighbor, helpful, funny, sarcastic, full of life....., I could go on. What I will miss most is the loving, teasing banter between you and Deb. My prayers go out to you and your family. You will be missed by many. - Posted by: Susan Burkitt (Neighbor) on: Mar 22, 2017
