HALYNA DANYLIUK On April 10, 2017, the former young girl from the selo of Kotel'va, in the Poltava Region of Ukraine passed away quietly in Winnipeg. Halyna was a hard working mother of two boys; Victor, his son Andrew (with his mother Linda) and Boris (Kirsten) and their son Nicholas. She was predeceased by her husband Petro and her grandson Alexander Peter. She missed both dearly. Our mother was one of the last remaining witnesses of the Holodomor perpetrated on Ukraine by the Stalinist Regime. She continued to worry about the current political interference in Ukraine as well. Losing her mother at age six and a father who was taken into the Siberian Gulags didn't make for a joyous childhood. She was a witness to terrible human atrocities in her early years, yet survived and thrived when she arrived in Montreal, Canada via Germany. It was here, in Winnipeg, that Mom met our father at a Christmas dance at the local UNF hall on Main Street in 1949, with their marriage then in 1952. Mom's commitment, to dad's community service, was unwavering in what he was able to get done in the Ukrainian community at that time. She provided him valuable feedback especially after he read a Ukrainian book. She would then also read that same book and then they would discuss their perspectives on the written text contained therein. It was wonderful for Boris and me to watch our parents communicate in this way. Halyna was employed by Modern Building Cleaning for many of those years. She diligently looked after her family at our home on Dudley Crescent at the same time. Gardening and her flowers presented a special joy. Left to mourn are her two nephews; Alexander & Mykola, Korostaschow, with their families in Poltava Ukraine. Boris and I would like to thank Mark von Kampen and Kirsten for their emergency care of Mom last August. Special friends, Darlene and Duane Dahl for the care and attention shown her over Mom's widowed years. The staff on Cornish 6, from the nursing staff to the aides and to the cleaning staff. Their kindness was a blessing to our family. Finally, Dr. Bohdan W. Choptiany has been our angel during all times of our family's anguish especially during the time of life's progress. A private memorial will take place for the family. A date of a public tea & remembrance is to be held at a later date. VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-956-2193 www.korbanchapel.com
