Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDIANE ELLARD December 7, 1931- April 23, 2017 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Diane Ellard, mother, grandmother, sister, aunty and best friend, at the age of 85 years at the St. Boniface Hospital on April 23, 2017. Diane was predeceased by her parents, Rosario and Cecile Vandale; her children, Bobby, Raymond, Gail; son-in-law John Moed; her five sisters, Leonore, Rita, Irene, Dorothy and Lucille and three brothers, Gilbert, Rene, Rhiel. She will be sadly missed but lovingly remembered by her children: Darlene, Dave, Doreen, Donald, Clay and their families, her 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and great–great-granddaughter Ava, sisters Rosemarie, Noella (Henry), Anita (Joe), her two sisters-in-law Jeanette and Marie-Paule, many nephews, nieces, cousins and godchildren. Diane was born in St. Anne, Manitoba and later moved to Winnipeg where she successfully raised her six children. She was both the mother and father figure in their lives. She worked in housekeeping at the hospital, then later managed three restaurants/hotels across the City - The Tourist Hotel/St. Vital Hotel and The West. She was an amazing cook and kept many of her customers happy and coming back for more. She was known as the Queen of Lemon Meringue Pie. She worked hard and played hard. Diane was a very strong, compassionate and caring person who fought hard to the end and leaves behind a legacy of strength and courage that will continue to inspire her family and friends. Diane loved to play baseball, Bingo, Canasta, Indian wrestling as well as her fiddling music and polka dancing. Her favourite pastime was spending time with family. She filled their hearts with love and stomachs with food. Our family wishes to extend our deepest gratitude and heartfelt thanks to the staff at St. Boniface Palliative Care. To honour Diane's life, a viewing will take place at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 27 at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 DesMeurons Street followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. Father Tommy will be officiating.
