FLORIDA LABOSSIERE (née LEMIEUX) The family of Florida Labossière is deeply saddened to announce the passing of their mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, on May 8, 2017 at the age of 95, following a lengthy struggle with dementia. Mom was predeceased by her loving husband Léopold Labossière; parents, Nestor and Florence; sisters, Elodie and Florette; brothers, Omer, Célestin, Euclide, Nelson, Guy and Alfred; and son-in-law Alberto Falsarella. Mourning her loss are her loving children: Roma (late Alberto Falsarella), Paulette (Robert Delorme), Denise (Guy Joubert) and Denis (Catherine); her grandchildren: Robert Delorme Jr., Julie Delorme (Tim Meakins), Natalie Delorme (Nathan Cottier), Gina Falsarella, Elyse Wood (Ryan), Sébastien Joubert and Nicolas Joubert (fiancé Bianca Policarpio); her great-grandchildren: Lukah, Morgan and Micsha; sister-in-law Ludivine Lemieux, as well as many relatives and friends. A Small Sketch from a Wonderful Life Tapestry Dementia can never cloak the beauty of a person. Despite the obscurity cast by its shadows, somehow a light always shines through revealing precious glimmers letting us know that our cherished one is still there. Like those of her generation, Mom lived through the depression years and made many sacrifices. In her youth, she loved school and excelled in all subjects but had to abandon an education to join the workforce. Although she left school she always appreciated the value of learning and made it a priority for her children to have opportunities she missed. Graduations were milestones and truly times of celebration. Mom's first job was as a live-in house-keeper / nanny, working seven days a week from morning until night. Those times were difficult for a young woman who had just left home, but they made her resilient. While there was certainly hardship and loneliness, it did not bring her down. Instead it made her steadfast and self-reliant. Mom was athletic and loved playing sports, especially baseball, running, and bowling in later years. When she was younger, she was a top player on the local baseball diamond and everyone wanted her to play on their team. She could run very fast and perhaps this was why she married a little later in life because it may have taken our Dad some time to catch her! Mom participated in many races at country picnics and fairs, and used her winnings to buy ice cream for her brothers and sisters. Following retirement, she took up bowling and continued to play well into her late 80s. She was an excellent player and won a number of trophies. Mom was a proud woman who was particular about her appearance. Her clothes and accessories always had to match and be tidy. She would get her hair styled once a week and a comb out in between if needed. When she married Dad in 1945, she became a housewife until his passing in 1977. She helped with farm work, milking cows and feeding animals. She maintained large gardens and canned vegetables, fruit and meat that provided the family for the year. She was a wonderful cook and renown for her turkey dressing, tourtières and pickles. Mom was a giving person who often sacrificed her own needs to provide for her family and others. She truly was a devoted wife and mother. After becoming a widow, Mom returned to the workforce and was employed in housekeeping at St. Boniface Hospital. She took great pride in what she did, and the work ethic she acquired during the depression years had not changed. Some of Mom's interests included embroidery, quilting, music and she had an appreciation for flowers, especially roses and wild roses. Although we are heartbroken we know that Mom is in a better place walking hand in hand with Dad amongst wild roses. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at Eglise Précieux-Sang, 200 Kenny Street, Winnipeg, MB on Friday, June 9, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. beginning with a Eulogy at 10:15 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba at www.alzheimer.mb.ca or to a charity of your choice.
