JOHN ANDREW CHOMICHUK John passed peacefully on April 30, 2017. He was the beloved husband to Elsie; much loved father to Donna (John), Michael, John Paul (Audrey) and Andrea; grandfather to Madison, Michaela, Jordan; and cherished brother to Walter. He will also be remembered by many in-laws, nieces, nephews and close friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Michael and Anna and brothers, Richard and Edward. John was born in Ethelbert, Manitoba on February 1, 1935. John lived there until he moved to Winnipeg to work as a mechanic at St. Norbert Motors. There he met Elsie and stayed in St. Norbert for many years. Always an entrepreneurial spirit, John operated the Star Texaco station on Pembina Highway where his skill and honesty gained him many loyal customers. John was a self-made man who moved on to new challenges, launched a number of lumber businesses and became known as The Cedarman. His last endeavour, Hillside Building Supplies, enabled him and Elsie to retire in their beautiful beachfront cottage that he designed and built at Hillside Beach. John enjoyed summers at the cottage with his family and often wintered in British Columbia. He loved cars, classical music and books: he took delight in figuring things out and fixing anything that wasn't working. He golfed and was the master of the BBQ. Well-liked and respected by those who met him-people always commented on what an honest, hard working, kind and generous man he was. He loved to meet people, showed genuine interest in their lives and was always there to lend a hand whether you were family, friend or a stranger. He will be dearly missed by many. John's Celebration of Life will be held at the Holy Family Church, 778 Archibald St., Winnipeg, Manitoba, on Thursday May 18, 2017 at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in John's memory to Parkinson Canada, 316-4211 Yonge Street, Toronto, ON M2P 2A9.
