ERNEST ARTHUR FRANK MARSDEN Ernie passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, at Tudor Personal Care Home in Selkirk, on May 14, 2017, at the age of 88. He was born on March 30, 1929 in Winnipeg, MB. He is survived by his loving wife Lillian; children, Judy Klos (Bob), Linell Marsden, Alison Bennett (Dave), William Marsden, Caryn Dubois (Pat) and Sharon Duncan (Gordon); his grandchildren, Josh Hingtgen (Ling), Kim McMillan (Brent), Sean Bennett (Marian), Angela Bennett, Cody Klos, Robert and William Dubois and Margaret and Michael Duncan; his great-grandchildren, Shayla, Mark, Sloane, Elayna, Alec, Isla and Sophie; his sisters, Amelia Neufeldt and Josephine Marsden, as well as many nieces and nephews. Ernie was predeceased by his son Robert and brother Kenneth. Ernie was a caring and giving person, always willing to help someone in need. He had a lifelong love of airplanes and cars. Ernie started working at the age of 16 at Consolidated Motors for 16 years then painted cars at other various autobody garages. He joined the Air Force Reserves at the age of 19 for two years. In 1949 he met Lillian at a New Year's Eve party where he walked her home; they were married August 12, 1950. They then built their home by hand together in Middlechurch with the help of family and friends, where they raised their seven children. Ernie's dream of becoming a pilot came true in his early 40s and he was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association. He started his own company called Eagle Messenger Service in the early 1970s where his children and nephews fondly remember working with him. He later worked for Progressive Industries where he retired at 67. He was a devoted parishioner at St. Paul's Anglican Church where he also volunteered for over 20 years. He loved children and dogs, and to travel with family. Lillian, his children and grandchildren all have many wonderful memories of the trips they shared. Ernie was later diagnosed with Alzheimer's and eventually moved to Tudor Personal Care Home where the staff loved his bright smile and sense of humour. We'd like to thank the staff at Tudor Personal Care Home for their devoted care. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 20, at 2:00 p.m., at the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, 309 Eveline St. in Selkirk, with Archdeacon Godfrey Mawejje officiating. Lunch will follow the service in the Gilbart Reception Center. Interment will follow the lunch at St. Paul's Anglican Churchyard Cemetery, 299 Balderstone Rd. in West St. Paul. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the charity of your choice. Condolences can be left at www.gilbartfuneralhome.com Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
