MYROSLAW (MARVIN) WALTER ROSLYCKY June 26, 1924 - June 3, 2017 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather and uncle, Myroslaw (Marvin) Roslycky. He was predeceased by his parents Mykola and Felicia Roslycky, beloved wife Halyna (nee Kokot), brother Dr. Eugene Roslycky, sister Olia Kruk and brother-in-law Myron Kruk. Myroslaw leaves to cherish his memory: daughter Sonya Dluhosh (Zenon), son Bohdan Roslycky (Dr. Patricia Kmet), grandsons Marko and Adrian, cousin Teresa Hryndzio (Jan and children Renata, Ivanka, Roman and Alexander), nephews Borys (Jayne) and Yury Kruk (Lesia and children Mykola, Danylo and Halyna); as well as relatives living in Ukraine, nephew Oleh Roslycky (Marianna), and niece and goddaughter Dr. Lada Roslycky. Myroslaw (Slawko) was born June 26, 1924 in the village Towste, Ternopil Oblast, Western Ukraine. In 1948, together with his close family intact, he was fortunate to immigrate to Canada settling in Mikado, Saskatchewan. In the spring of 1950 he settled in Winnipeg's North End. He loved his new country Canada and never forgot he was given the chance to start a new life. Myroslaw met Halyna Kokot in Winnipeg and they married in 1953. He worked at the Building Products of Canada in Point Douglas for over 45 years. Marvin decided to retire in 1996 at the age of 72. Myroslaw was a patriotic man. In 1991, he was euphoric that he lived to witness Ukraine declare itself an independent state. He lived a humble, hardworking life but made an extraordinary difference in the lives of his family and friends. He was a longtime member of Sts. Volodymyr and Olha Cathedral, and a supporter of many Ukrainian organizations. He will be missed at the Cathedral's Sunday coffee and fellowship. He conscientiously served on the Board of Directors of Progress Vera Credit Union for 25 years. There, he also diligently functioned as chair. He was the family orator who always delivered memorized poetic greetings and wishes for all occasions. The phrase "till death do us part" was taken literally by Myroslaw. He cared for his beloved wife Halyna (who suffered from early-onset Alzheimer's disease) at home for over 16 years. Gardening was always a special undertaking that became even more enjoyable once Myroslaw retired. It pleased him to share information, reading materials or garden produce with kith and kin. He considered his two grandsons to be among the greatest gifts bestowed upon him. Marko and Adrian were touched by their grandfather's unconditional love and it was reciprocated in kind. In step with predeceased close relatives, Myroslaw wished to stay in his own home for as long as possible. This wish was met. The family would like to thank Dr. Dominic Tsang and staff of Mountain Medical Centre for their superior care for over 30 years; to Doctors Jeff Saranchuk and Joel Gingerich and staff (especially nurse Cheryl) of the Prostate Centre CancerCare Manitoba for their compassionate care. Thanks also to W.R.H.A. Palliative Care Program nurses and home care staff who helped Myroslaw reside at home for as long as possible. We also express great gratitude to the Riverview Health Centre Palliative Care staff for the wonderful care given to Myroslaw during his last days. Panakhyda will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 8 at Sts. Volodymyr and Olha Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral, 115 McGregor St. Funeral Divine Liturgy will be celebrated by Rt. Rev. Msgr. Michael Buyachok at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 9 at Sts. Volodymyr and Olha Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral, followed by interment in All Saints Cemetery, 4535 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated in Myroslaw's memory to the Renovation Fund of Ukrainian Catholic Metropolitan Cathedral of Sts. Volodymyr and Olha, 115 McGregor St., Winnipeg, MB R2W 4V6; or to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 1160 - 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9, donate@cancercare.mb.ca VICHNAYA PAM'YAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-956-2193 www.korbanchapel.com
