SCOTT (SCOTTY) WAYNE MAHONEY October 3, 1987 - May 27, 2017 It is with heavy hearts and sorrow that we announce Scotty has left us. Kind, considerate, generous and loyal - with a pinch of strong will and attitude would best describe our dear Scott. He was a huge animal lover, which is why we so often found him curled up with our family dog. Scott enjoyed playing hockey, soccer and lacrosse, however, it was fishing and being outdoors where he longed to be. He had a great sense of humor and loved a good joke or pun. A great day to Scott would be a new pair of black "shades" or a needless haircut. Scotty returned to school last year and with the help of a fantastic adult program, he graduated with his full high school diploma - one of his greatest achievements. Scotty had recently made some enormous changes in his life after struggling with addiction. Through this amazing program, he found that physical activity including a gym membership truly helped body and mind, which had a huge impact with recovery. We were all as proud of Scott as he was of himself these past several months. Scott now joins his sisters Jessica Mahoney and Diana Palmerton as well as his grandfather Ron Mahoney to watch over his true love Alicia Anastacio; parents Glen and Wendy Mahoney; Fred and Sandy Anastacio (Darian and Adrianna); brother-in-law Ryan Palmerton and niece Alyssa Hibbert; sister Melissa Mahoney (Jearum Kurtz) and nieces, Madisyn, Jaidyn, Jillyan and Mackenzy; brother-in-law Dale Ferguson; Aunty Debbra Jansz; Aunty Gale Wight (Jack); Aunty Val Mahoney (Brian Brown); and Uncle Brent Mahoney (Lori). Scott also watches over his grandmother Patricia Mahoney; grandparents John and Jean Wright as well as great-grandmother Bessie McLaren. He also leaves many cousins and friends that he loved with his whole heart. We invite everyone who wishes to share a story to do so at the Celebration of Scott's Life on Friday, June 16, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in the Royal Canadian Legion No. 4 St. James Branch, 1755 Portage Avenue. Please let us know in advance if possible so we can accommodate all, and let's keep it PG. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Bruce Oake Recovery Centre, an urgently needed long-term, residential treatment centre in Winnipeg and Manitoba. Donations may be made through https://www.bruceoakerecoverycentre.ca/ or by mail at PO Box 61084 Grant Park, Winnipeg, MB R3M 3K8. • I am so sorry to hear of Scott's passing. Scott and my relationship evolved over the years as I was his teacher in middle and high school. I remember one day just prior to Christmas break when he bounced into my classroom as happy as could be. He proudly handed me a long rectangular box adorned with a bow and said, "Thanks, Mr. Gould. This is from me." I dare not open it at school. A week later when gathered with family and friends on Christmas eve I opened this box from a student. It was a bottle of Chateau Neuf de Pape. That memory has always stayed with me, along with his smiling face and boundless energy. - Posted by: Norm Gould (Former Teacher) on: Jun 12, 2017
