Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPETER WHITWORTH June 11, 1931 - June 17, 2017 The family of T. Peter Whitworth sadly announce his passing on June 17, 2017. Peter is survived by Sandra, his loving wife and partner, his children, Stephen, Elisa, Nancy (Tom), Christopher, and grandchildren, Jeremy, Faith, and Alexander, plus nieces and nephews. Peter was predeceased by his father Thomas, mother Marjorie, his sister Barbara, and brother-in-law Don. Peter was a consummate professional who loved his craft: a common man with an uncommon talent. His career as an optician on Vaughn Street spanned an incredible 52 years. His clientele became family over the decades as he watched the children he worked with grow, and then bring in their own children, who in turn are bringing in their babies for service. He was loved by so many and will be sorely missed. The family would like to thank the staff at the Grace Hospital, and a special thanks to Reverend Paul Johnson for his support. In keeping with Peter's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no formal service. A private ceremony will take place at a later date. Our deepest condolences to Sandra and family. We met Peter 12 years ago when we walked into Whitworth Optician. Our daughter was diagnosed with stabismis, we felt so scared and worried. You both greeted us with the warmest smile and made us feel so welcomed. You calmed our worries and assured us all was going to be just fine with your knowledge and wisdom. From that day on Peter welcomed us with smiles and wonderful conversations. We are so sorry for you loss, Peter will be truly missed. Our thoughts are with you. My deepest condolences to Sandra and the rest of the family. Peter and Sandra have been the opticians for my girls since my now 18 year old was a baby. Peter and Sandra helped fit glasses on my baby girl to help her eye turn and their skill in making special glasses with all the right measurements is better than anyone else in this city. I am grateful to hear Sandra will continue to keep open Whitworth Opticians as they have helped so many kids with special needs who need the specialism in optician care that they offer. Peter as a human being was the cheeriest, most friendly man to both myself and my girls. They didn't mind all of the glasses fittings and measurements because Peter would entertain them with chatter and we always enjoyed our visits with Peter and Sandra. Peter's integrity always shone through as well as his general attitude about life - he had a joi de vivre about him that was contagious. He will be sorely missed and Sandra, you commented when I visited your store the other day that he was half of a great team, he indeed was. But you my dear are stellar in your own right and you will continue to help serve those who need your special skills. For that, Manitoba is fortunate. I wish you all the blessings in the world for you and your children/grandchildren as you process the loss of such an incredible man. Your love for each other was apparent all of these years. May you continue to feel it within your heart and soul. - Posted by: Maureen Becker (clients for 17 years) on: Jun 29, 2017

When my son Robert, had problems with his eyes we were sent to Peter and Sandra's shop. The minute our family entered they made us feel like an extended family. Peter through the years looked after Robert with kindness and honesty. Peter directed us to the smartest glasses for a small child and continued till my son was going to the shop himself. With the greatest sadness we extend our condolences to the whole family. Peter will be very missed not only from our family but everyone he touched in his life path. My son has autism and was a client of Peter & Sandra since the age of 9 mos. He is now 17 1/2 years old and preparing to graduate from high school. Both Peter and Sandra were amazing in caring for my son's optical needs. I remember the first time Sandra put glasses on my son. At 10 months old he grabbed my face and started kissing and slobbering all over me and he seemed to have quite a grip on my face. Sandra said to me "He can see you for the first time"!! I cried like a baby in their office. One day we were there when my son was 3 years old and my son was upset and crying and Peter started whistling to him a beautiful song. My son stopped crying and Peter said to him "there you go now I whistled your tears away"!! To this day my son remembers Peter as "the man who whistled my tears away" Peter would be proud to know that my son whistles ALL the time and sounds like a bird. We will never forget your kindness and making difference in our lives. Our thoughts and prayers are with Peter's entire family. I extend my deepest sympathy to Sandra and the Whitworth family. I had the good fortune to know Peter through Whitworth Opticians. He was every bit a gentleman, a professional, and a wonderful human being. I so enjoyed our conversations and I shall miss him very much.
