Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROGER CALDER December 15, 1961 - June 30, 2017 It is with broken hearts and great sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of our brother, Cyril Albert Roger Calder, aged 55 years, on June 30, 2017. Roger suffered a massive heart attack early that morning. He leaves to mourn his passing, and to forever cherish his memory, his loving partner and best friend Brenda; brothers, Raymond and wife Bettina, Daryl, Kelvin and wife Shelley; sister Darlene Kustra and husband Todd; sister-in-law Debbie; friend Wanda; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his father Leonard; sister Bonnie; brother Wayne, and most recently his beloved mother Arlene. Roger knew a ton of people. People from all across Canada, right up to the Arctic Circle. He had friends everywhere. Many were made over his 35 years as a mechanic and working on construction crews, but most came from his enduring and whole-hearted commitment to the snowmobiling racing community. Sledding was Roger's life; from fixing them, building them, racing them, running his own racing team to hosting snowmobile drag races. He did it all and loved every minute of it. You could hardly speak of Roger without making reference to a machine of some sort. He was a true 'Polaris' guy through and through. Roger worked hard all of his life, never giving up and never stopping. He was a straight forward kind of guy, headstrong, big hearted, talented, compassionate, very funny, even comical, and most importantly he was very loving to his family. Roger was an avid gardener and he loved nothing more than tending his big garden, trying to rabbit proof it, much to the chagrin of his faithful dog Roscoe and new puppy Tundra. Those two were his buddies. Roger loved to tell jokes and to make people laugh. He liked to tease everyone, especially his sister. At times when we'd all be together, whether it was out camping, at a backyard BBQ, at a race or dinner at Mom's, we'd laugh until we cried. We'll forever be grateful for those memories. Surely his friends will have as many good stories to tell. Roger didn't want any type of formal service, so in keeping with his wishes we invite family and friends to come pay their respects at a casual 'Come and Go' on Sunday, July 9, anytime between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at the Riverton Fellowship Circle, behind the Noventis Credit Union, Riverton, MB. Coffee and cake will be served. Cremation has taken place and we will inter Roger's ashes, along with our Mom's ashes on Saturday, July 22 at 2:00 p.m. at the Washow Bay Cemetery, 20 kms. north of Riverton, at the bridge. A Celebration of Life (Roger style) will be held at that time. As there are no facilities there please bring a lawn chair. A very special thank you to all of the wonderful and caring people who called us with messages of sympathy and offers of help. You mean the world to us. Condolence messages can be sent to Calders@mymts.net As you can appreciate this is a very difficult time for our family right now, but we take comfort in knowing that our brother Roger didn't suffer and he is resting peacefully now with our Mom. We wouldn't be surprised if he isn't trying to organize some sort of sled race right now, or hunting down a 'Polaris'. You know Roger! Thank you to the paramedics, R.C.M.P., doctors and nurses of the Percy E. Moore Hospital, Hodgson, MB who tried so heroically to save our brother. We appreciate all your efforts. Thank you for treating our family with such dignity and respect. Thank you also to the Gilbart Funeral Home for all your help and kindness. Donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, or please plant some beautiful flowers or plants in your garden in memory of Roger. To all his sledding buddies, go outside, start up your sleds, rev them up until the air is cloudy with exhaust and smells of racing fuel. Roger would have loved that. RODGER D. DODGER "He'll always be remembered As a man both strong and good. Who gave his best for others and Who did the best he could. He'll always be amongst us, In heart and mind and thought, As a man who made a difference, And a man who meant a lot" -Love from your family REST IN PEACE BRO GODSPEED Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, in care of arrangements, 204-482-3271.

Roger we are sorry we never got to meet you and were looking forward to a trip out there in the near future to spend some time with you and Brenda, all I can say is you must have been a super fellow because you made my sister so happy, I've never seen her shine so bright as when she talked about you and the plans you shared for the future and we would have loved to be part of it. God speed Roger and our sympathy is with Brenda and your family they sound pretty special to according to my sister. Rest in peace Buddy, I sure hope you are having coffee and dainties with mom right now! She was your world as I know. I will never forget the countless weekends I spent in the garage building sleds and tuning until 5:00 am with you and your mom was a big part of it as she fed us well each and every time I was there. I hope you find a porting grinder and some race fuel in your travels! - Posted by: Dean Kozub (friend) on: Jul 08, 2017
