GIOVANNI MARCHIONE June 16, 1936 - July 11, 2017 It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Giovanni Marchione on July 11, 2017, at Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 81. Giovanni was born in Furci, Chieti, Italy on June 16, 1936, to his parents Antonio and Teresa. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years, Maria, children, Tony (Nelia) and Teresa (Neil), grandchildren, Thomas and Emily, and many relatives and friends. Giovanni immigrated to Canada in 1957, and later returned to Italy where he met and married Maria, the love of his life, in February, 1961. Together they returned to Canada and settled in Winnipeg in hopes of aspiring to a better life. Dad had a strong work ethic and he was recognized as employee of the year with Air Canada. He proudly received his award at a ceremony in Montreal, Quebec in 1998, and retired soon after. Dad loved to spend time with family and friends and especially his two grandchildren who were the light of his life. Dad loved to travel, spend time in his garden, stayed active by playing bocce, and was a handyman who was always ready to lend a helping hand to family and friends. Dad was a kind, generous man with a wonderful sense of humour, a radiant smile, and will be dearly missed. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 15, 2017, at Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Avenue, at 10:00 a.m. (condolences at 9:00 a.m.) with Father Sam Argenziano celebrant. The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at Seven Oaks Hospital and St. Joseph's Residence for the care and compassion given to Dad while in their care. In lieu of flowers, donations in Giovanni's memory may be made to the Manitoba Heart & Stroke Foundation or at The Friends of St. Joseph's Residence.
