Date of Passing: Jul 11, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARGARET EMILY SAPISHCHUK Our loving mother peacefully passed away on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at St. Boniface Hospital. She has joined her parents, Samuel and Emilea (nee Korol), brothers, Hnat, Mytro and Peter, and sisters, Mary, Rosie, Nellie and Annie. She will be deeply missed by her daughters, Janice and Melanie (Daniel), son Leslie (Donna), grandchildren, D'Arcy (Jolene) and Angelina, great-grandchildren, Natasha, Aerial and Shay, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mom was the youngest girl born at home in Horod, MB. Here she started a lifelong commitment in caring for others. Initially babysitting her sister's children, she felt they were her real life dolls. Later, caring for her mother at the farm, particularly after her debilitating stroke. Mom married in 1955 and moved to Gimli, MB. Later, she moved to Winnipeg to upgrade her education to train in her passion - hairdressing. A few car accidents forced her to change career paths to home care with the WRHA and she took courses to upgrade her position from housekeeping to certified home care attendant which resulted in a 28 year career. Mom enjoyed belonging to many organizations from the early years with the Royal Canadian Navy League - Ladies Auxiliary, as a Snowy Owl with the Girl Guides of Canada, 141 Ukrainian Legion - Ladies Auxiliary, Joint Hospital, Senior Achievers, North End Seniors Club, Odd Fellows and Rebekah's, serving sandwiches during the flood of 1997 and her most important charity work of poppy sales on Remembrance Day at Walmart on McPhillips. Mom was a hard-working woman; she managed to save and purchase two houses as well as take three trips to Europe - twice to visit the War memorials and once to the Ukraine. Mom had a green thumb and loved to garden. She always had tomatoes and a variety of cosmos, morning glory and geraniums at her home. She enjoyed spending time with family which always included KFC's Toonie Tuesday and a visit to the neighbourhood pizza/chicken/samosa place. By 2015 Mom's health had initiated another change to move into St. Boniface where she would be closer to her two daughters. She took great delight in feeding the squirrels out front while socializing, playing bingo, gardening, and watching her great-granddaughters having ice cream and playing hide and seek on Saturday visits. We will miss your energy and caring Mom, Love you and rest well. MOM: You were always there when we needed you, no task great or small. With a loving heart and a helping hand, for us you did them all. Many thanks for all the years you gave us, and for all the times we shared. The family would like to thank the wonderful, compassionate caregivers at Cathedrale Manor for you all made it feel truly like a home. Funeral service to be officiated by Father Isadore on Saturday, July 29 at 9:30 a.m. at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main Street. Interment to follow September 12 in Horod, MB.
