RONALD JUSTIN MAITRE After a lengthy battle with cancer, Ron passed away at Riverview Health Centre on July 13, 2017, at the age of 72. Ron will be missed by his three children: Mélanie Bisson, Justin (Nicole Baril) and Roland (Jennifer West); seven grandchildren: Elise and Danika Bisson; Sophie, Gabriel, Samuel, Valérie Maître; and Max Maître. Ron was predeceased by the love of his life, his dear wife Gisèle (Huberdeau) Maître; his parents Léon Maître and Adeline Fradette of Ste. Rose du Lac; by his wife's parents Louis Huberdeau and Jeanne Fenez of St. Lazare; his brother-in-law Claude Huberdeau (Shannon Tataryn); his brother-in-law Gérald Chateau (Jeannine Maître), and a nephew Donald Chateau. He leaves to mourn his passing: his sister, Jeannine (Gérald) Chateau and her children Paul and Gisèle Oleksiuk; his brothers and sisters-in-law: Lorraine (Ivan) Tremblay, Jacinthe (Gérard Balcaen), Denis (Zoé Guay), Ronald (Joanne Norrie), Adrien (Marcie Fouillard) and Léonne (Ken Henderson). Ron and Gisèle were married May 16, 1970. Ron spent many years in sales in the tire industry, and ran his own tire retreading business for years. Ron devoted the last seven years of his life taking exceptional care of Gisèle as she navigated through an illness of her own. Ron was a proud member of his community and spent many years in the Knights of Columbus. He found much enjoyment by spending time with his children and grandchildren, fishing, and hunting. His door was always open, and he will be remembered as a cheerful, hospitable and humourous person. A funeral mass will be held at St. Eugène Parish on Thursday, July 20, at 11:00 a.m. We would like to extend many thanks to the staff on the Palliative Unit at Riverview Health Centre. Donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba. E.J. COUTU & CO. FUNERAL DIRECTORS 680 Archibald Street 204-253-5086 ejcoutu.co

  • I knew Ronnie from the time we were kids in Ste. Rose. His father had served as my father's best man when my parents were married. After his family moved to Winnipeg, we continued to be friends and I visited him several times while I attended the Juniorat in St. Boniface and later when I worked in the Royal Bank around Manitoba and was in Winnipeg on courses. I last saw him at the Ste. Rose homecoming and he was as friendly as ever. I send my condolences to his sister Jeannine, my singing partner so many years ago. May his soul Rest in Peace. - Posted by: Rene Jacob (friend) on: Jul 18, 2017

  • I knew Ronald when he was a youngster, while I attended Sacred Heart School in the 11th grade with his sister Jeannine. Some approx. 10 years later I was surprised to find that he was posted with me to my first branch as a manager with Bank of Montreal in St. Lazare, MB. Ronald was an open, life-loving individual, and a very honest, straightforward, determined and hard-working colleague, with whom I very much enjoyed spending a lot of time with, both in & out of the office. I thought of him and his sister many times over the ensuing years to date, and thought highly of both of them as fine persons who would lead successful lives, which I am certain they did. I trust Jeannine is doing well and offer my condolences to her over the loss of her brother. It was a sad note to hear of Ron's passing.
