MARY TRUCHAN It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Mary Truchan on Tuesday, July 18, 2017. Mary was born in Shepiwchy, Western Ukraine to Evdokia and Yakenty Zoloty. She was six years old when she went to live with her uncle, Father Zachary Zoloty in Delyatin, Ukraine after her parents' passing. Mom was a happy, inquisitive child who enjoyed her years with her uncle whom she loved very much. Life changed when the Second World War broke out. They had to flee with nothing but the clothes on their backs when the Russians and Germans began advancing. By the grace of God, they made it to Austria, then to Munich, Germany where Mom studied pharmacy at the University of Munich. After the war, she immigrated to Canada. She spent a few years in Canora, Saskatchewan then moved to Winnipeg where she met her future husband, William, at a church dance. Many happy years were spent with her husband and their four daughters in the North End of Winnipeg. Mom loved everything about nature - animals and gardening were her passion. Mom lived for her family gatherings - being a gourmet cook and speciality torte maker. She hosted Christmas and Easter dinners for extended family for over 40 years. Mom was a selfless person and deeply loved her family and friends. She will be deeply missed. Mary was predeceased by her parents, her uncle, and her husband William. She is survived by her four daughters, Terese, Lily, Lesia and Vera; her grandchildren Nicholas (Crystal), Olivia and Daniel; and her great-granddaughter Emery Pearl. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2107 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Church at 737 Bannerman Avenue with Rev. Father Isidore Dziadyk, OSBM officiating. Pallbearers will be Nicolas Jabbour, Daniel Budzak, Dennis Drabyk and Justin Pulciano. Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Andrea Babick and Dr. Terry Babick for their care and compassion to our mom. As well, a huge thank you to all the staff of St. Joseph's Residence for the years of care given to our mom. VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 204-956-2193 www.korbanchapel.com

  • I met Mrs. Truchan when I was only 14 years old. I am a friend of her daughter Lily's. She was an awesome, kind hearted & always smiling lady. Whenever I went there she would say to me "come on eat, eat" My own mother passed away 30 years ago so she kind of became the mother I never had. I will never forget her & keep her in my heart. My condolences go out to her family. Gone but never forgetten. - Posted by: Heather Nowak (friend) on: Jul 22, 2017
