NESTOR ERNEST CHERNIAK Peacefully, on August 24, 2017 at Red River Place in Selkirk, MB, Nestor went home to Heaven. Although we are saddened by his passing, we know he has gone to be reunited with his loving wife, Elsie and his son, Craig. Dad was born on April 2, 1927 in Winnipeg Beach, MB. He was a mechanic by trade and in 1953, he and his brother, Peter, purchased a service station and Chrysler dealership in Gimli, which they operated until 1965. He then worked at the Evergreen School Division as a mechanic and school bus driver until his retirement in 1994. In 1952, he met and married the love of his life, Elsie Bohonos. They lived in Gimli and raised their two sons there. He was always proud of his two boys and attended their hockey games, even though he was not a big hockey fan! Dad enjoyed his country music and even drove all the way to Nashville one time, to see some of his favorite acts perform. He also enjoyed working in his yard and garden and enjoyed hosting the annual August long weekend BBQ. Dad was predeceased by his wife Elsie; son Craig; brothers Ed, Mike and Peter. He is survived by his son Grant (Kim); daughter-in-law Darleen; beloved granddaughters, Amy and Kelly (Matt) and great-granddaughter Avery and granddog, Monte. As well as several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Red River Place for taking such good care of dad, and making him feel like he was home. A special thank you to his brother-in-law Lorne Bohonos and his wife Audrey as well as Ed and Audrey Powroznik for all your visits to dad in the nursing home. We know how much he enjoyed those visits! Funeral services will take place on Monday, August 28 at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church in Gimli, with a luncheon to follow. Interment will take place after the luncheon. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice. Condolences may be left at www.gilbartfuneralhome.com Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements.

  • First my deepest condolences to my nephew Grant and Kim! Grant was a wonderful son to his dad! Nestor was a wonderful brother-in-law to me ! I remember when they first got married and lived on the farm, I would go with Nestor and help pick rocks! I lived with them and took care of Craig & Grant from the day they were born! I was with my sister when Nestor went through brain surgery, and was with Nestor through other times in need! He was a hard working man and provided for his family and me. I I have many great memories and I loved him dearly. He will be in my heart forever! I will miss always having a beer with him and just talking. I will miss him squeezing my shoulder every time I visited him and I would always say ouch and he would laugh! Just too many memories to share. But he was always there for me when I needed him! RIP sweet brother-in-law! You were loved by me! Marlene - Posted by: NARLENE HAVELOCK (SISTER IN LAW) on: Aug 26, 2017
