Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPAULA CHERYL EDWARDS (ATWELL) November 13, 1958 - August 23, 2017 Paula Edwards, a cherished daughter and beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones, on August 23, 2017. She was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba at the Health Sciences Centre on November 13, 1958 to John and Dorothy Atwell. Paula had three children, Adelle, Michelle (Sonya) and Daniel, and was later blessed with her grandson, and best friend, Brandon. Paula was a beautiful soul and will be remembered as a vibrant and loving woman who brightened the lives of all who knew her. Connecting with people and their stories was a passion and pleasure for Paula. She later turned this passion towards an engaging and fulfilling career in nursing and social work that fostered her desire to share with and help people. Later in life, Paula battled with renal failure and began a new journey with her dialysis family, where her fondness for community building and inspiring others shined through. She was predeceased by her mother, Dorothy Atwell, and will be dearly missed and remembered fondly by her father, John Atwell, her three children, her grandson, her partner, Michael Edwards, and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles. We would like to thank the many close friends and family who offered their love, support and thoughtful words towards Paula. The family would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the St. Boniface Hospital Dialysis staff and nurses for all their support towards our mother during her battle with renal failure. Cremation will take place and a celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 31 at Mary, Mother of the Church Catholic Parish, 85 Kirkbridge Drive, followed by a reception at Richmond Kings Community Centre, 666 Silverstone Avenue. Family request that if you have, please wear an article containing the colour purple (her favourite) in her honour. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Paula's memory to the Manitoba Chapter of the Kidney Foundation of Canada. E.J. COUTU & CO. I met Paula in high school - we shared a crush on the same boy, and Paula took this adolescent infatuation to comic heights in sidewalk monologues where she detailed everything their life together would be, describing her devotion in such ways that we'd be doubled over laughing hysterically. She had a friendly intelligence about her and such a great yet understated sense of humour. A memory sticks: She would have us in tears on the sidewalk, but when we went into her house, she would transform into a calm, reserved person who shrugged at her mother to wordlessly say she had no idea how I lost my composure (the comic hangover still so evident). We were friends really for a very short time, such is the way of adolescence, but she was unforgettable, confident and kind to everyone. A real gem and although it's been decades, it is easy to see that her passing is a terrible loss for all of you. I was in Manitoba in August - I wish I had checked the obits and attended her service. I am sorry you are without her now, but I am sure her kindness and caring live on in her children and grandson. In Sympathy, Jo - Posted by: Jo Hatherly (High School friend) on: Sep 24, 2017

I was lucky to have met and become friends with Paula a few years back while we were both in dialysis. She was a person who was full of life regardless of the situation she was dealt. There was a few of us who were in dialysis and some who were not whom she called her Dialysis Family! Paula always made sure we gathered together for activities outside of our dialysis time. She was a caring person and I will miss her. I consider myself a lucky person to have been her friend. Rest in peace Paula! - Posted by: Lynda Kitchen (Friend) on: Aug 30, 2017

To the family of Paula, my deepest sympathies. She was an amazing lady who brought joy to the room. I so enjoyed our visits (I volunteer 2 days/wk in dialysis). I will wear purple on Thursday for her - I will be away this week so can't be with you on Thursday. But trust that her spirit lives on in her precious family. And may God give you peace as you grieve for Paula. Terry - Posted by: Terry Johanneson (friend) on: Aug 27, 2017
