JAKE RICHARD DYCK
Born: Jul 19, 1944
Date of Passing: Aug 24, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAKE (JACOB) RICHARD DYCK July 19, 1944 - August 24, 2017 Peacefully, surrounded by the love of family, Jake Dyck passed away at home on Thursday, August 24, 2017, at the age of 73 years. Jake is lovingly remembered by his wife of 47 years, Vicky, his children Jeff and Françoise, Barb and Celso, Bryan and Shona, his grandchildren Tiago, Kami, Davin and Scotlynn, his siblings Larry (Gloria), John (Henrietta), Johanna (Don), Peter (Liliane), Bill (Linda), George (Crystal) and Grace (Gerry), his brother-in-law Arthur, and by his numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends. Jake was born in Winkler, Manitoba to Mary and Jacob Dyck. As a teenager, the family moved to Winnipeg where Jake graduated from Vincent Massey Collegiate. Jake then attended the University of Manitoba before beginning his career as a technician for the Canadian Forest Service. Jake met Vicky in 1967 and they married in 1970 before moving together to Edmonton for work. Their three children were born in Edmonton before his work moved them back to Winnipeg in 1982. When the office was relocated back to Edmonton, Jake chose to retire and remain near family in Manitoba. While Jake enjoyed being outdoors and was an impressive handyman, Jake's number one priority in life was family. He loved and cherished his wife, children and grandchildren, but he also maintained close ties to his brothers and sisters even though they lived in far-flung locations in Canada and elsewhere. Yearly road trips always revolved around family. Family visits, special occasions or Sunday dinners were some of his happiest times. Children were always attracted to Jake's fun, kind and gentle soul. Grandpa's lap was the most comfortable and safe place. Jake was also passionate about music and singing. Music was a pleasure and a comfort to Jake all his life. The family extends a special thank you to the home care workers and to the Palliative Care team that helped Jake through his final months. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, August 31, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the King Roman Catholic Parish, 847 St. Mary's Rd., Winnipeg, Manitoba. Viewing will begin 30 minutes before the Mass. The Mass will be followed by interment and a luncheon in Christ the King's parish hall. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jake's name to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba (alzheimer.mb.ca) or to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation (www.cancercarefdn.mb.ca). seasonsfunerals.ca

Dear Vicky, Jeff, Barb, Bryan, and families, I offer my sincere sympathy on the passing of your husband, father, and grandfather. Jake was a wonderful man and a devoted parent. As I watched each of the Dyck children grow and learn in high school, as their principal, I sensed the strong foundation for a positive future that was created by wonderful and caring parents at home. I know that this will be a very sad time for you all. However, I hope that this sadness will soon be replaced by happy memories of a very special man. So sorry to hear about Jake, we had some good times when we were neighbours. Marla always talked very fondly of Jake. So sorry we won't be able to make the memorial for Jake as we are in Detroit with Marla and the kids. Our deepest sympathy goes out to you and the kids.
