HELEN DARCEL (nee CHORNEY) It is with sadness the family announces that Helen Darcel passed away peacefully on Monday, August 28, 2017. Helen was predeceased by her husband Peter and their son David, son-in-law Wayne and her sisters, Lucy and Margaret. She is lovingly remembered by daughter Cynthia and granddaughter Amanda; son James and grandsons, Joseph and Alexandre; daughter Marie (Charles), grandson: Mark (Renée), great-granddaughters, Winnie and Géneviève; grandson Adam (Nikkole), great-grandchildren, Sawyer and Sadie; her brother James (Sylvia), sister Shirley, and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to all who provided Helen with health care, home support and friendship. Helen was born to Onofrey and Sophie Chorney and grew up near Ituna, Saskatchewan. She often recalled many happy memories of her early years including employment in Saskatoon starting as a bank teller and later with Trans-Canada Air Lines as a ticket agent when she met Peter. They moved to Gimli but settled in Winnipeg to raise their family. In 1993, they returned to live in Gimli. In keeping with Helen's wishes, a funeral service will be held on Friday, September 1, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. in the Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald Street, followed by a graveside service at 2:30 p.m. in the Gimli Cemetery (just north of Gimli, off PTH 9/222).
