ELYSE PALEY It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, sister, wife, aunt, and friend Elyse Paley. Surrounded by her loved ones, Elyse passed away peacefully at the Riverview Health Centre the evening of August 27, 2017. Predeceased by her parents Benoit and Jeanne Guyot. Left to cherish her memory are her husband Eric Sigurdson; children Selena (Mike) Abray and Evan; grandchildren Savannah and MJ; siblings Marc, Dennis (Charlene) Guyot, Gil Bedard, and most especially her beloved sister and best friend Danielle (Henry) Claeys; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, friends and colleagues. Elyse was born and raised in St. Boniface, Winnipeg, Manitoba. As a young girl, she enjoyed square and tap dancing at Archwood School, skating at Falcons Community Club, and singing and dancing to The Beatles with her girlfriends Susan, Carol, and Lynda. After high school, Elyse went on to perform as a singer in her late teens and early twenties. She performed live shows, recorded six LPs including a cover for The Carpenters, a band she adored, and numerous radio jingles. In 1971 she married Ted Paley and they had two beautiful children together: Selena and Evan. Elyse was a devoted mother and spent many years sewing costumes and making birthday cakes. She began her career with the Province of Manitoba in 1985, and was looking forward to her retirement on September 1. She enjoyed her job in the Child and Family Services Word processing unit. She made many friends over the years and was well-known for her ability to type 120 words per minute. In 2000, Elyse celebrated the arrival of her granddaughter "Gigi" (Savannah), and MJ in 2014. She was a loving Gramma and was never afraid to display her love and affection for them. Elyse was always on a continuous journey of self-improvement. An avid runner, she also had a passion for baking, dancing and decorating. She enjoyed tap dancing, as well as travelling to Arizona every year. In 2016, she married her partner of many years, Eric Sigurdson, at their home in Gilbert, Arizona. As usual, she looked stunning and was very happy surrounded by her family and close friends. Elyse will be most fondly remembered for her beautiful smile, enduring kindness, infectious laugh, and unconditional love for her family. She was and will forever be in our hearts. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Tina's Tender Loving Care and the staff at Riverview Health Centre for the excellent care and compassion provided to Elyse in her final days. In keeping with Elyse's wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Edward J. Coutu Funeral Home, 680 Archibald Street. Flowers are gratefully accepted. The loss is unmeasurable but so is the love left behind The song is ended but the melody lingers on.. E.J. COUTU & CO. I just learned of the passing of Elyse, and was shocked and saddened to learn of her passing at such a young age. She was always so friendly to me and had an infectious laugh - I will always remember her, and will miss not seeing her again. Elyse was a very down to earth person and was liked by those all around her. I know she will be greatly missed by her immediate family, and her close friend and sister Danielle. I feel terrible I did not attend the funeral, but do not take the paper, and was not informed of her passing. I wish her peace and happiness in the afterlife, where she will meet up with all her loved ones. Rest in peace Elyse - you were truly a warm and special person. - Posted by: Grant Paleshnuik (Cousin) on: Mar 15, 2018

I remember Elyse so fondly in our workplace for her immaculate preparation of formal documents, her very strong work ethic and her friendly demeanour to me and all those who crossed her path. Elyse held a special memory to me too because she often donated her very high quality and fashionable used clothing to my daughter who was also a tiny person in stature like Elyse. Sometimes my daughter would use the clothing to play dress up with her favourite doll who was a large walking doll by the name of Elyse. That was a big coincidence. On occasion, I brought my daughter to work, and I made sure to introduce her, and then pay subsequent visits over to word processing to say hi, to Elyse. Condolences are heartfelt and go out to her family, friends, co-workers and others who knew Elyse. She will surely be sadly missed by all of us. - Posted by: Wendy Scheirich (Co-worker) on: Sep 02, 2017

Although the time that Elyse and I worked together was relatively brief, the impact she made has never been forgotten. Kind and compassionate, quietly understated, Elyse was a gem! I swear she could type that 120 words per minute with one hand tied behind her back. I am sorry to miss the service celebrating her life. My condolences to Eric and Danielle (whom I know) as well as to all of Elyse's family, friends, and colleagues. She will be missed. - Posted by: Linda Burnside (former co-worker) on: Aug 31, 2017
