DR. FORTUNAT (DOC) CHAMPAGNE
Date of Passing: Sep 06, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDR. FORTUNAT (DOC) CHAMPAGNE Peacefully at the St. Boniface Hospital on Wednesday, September 6, 2017, Dr. Fortunat Champagne, of St. Claude, Manitoba, passed away at the age of 92 years. He leaves to cherish his memory his three children, Denis (Colleen Metge), Lynne (Robert Stanners) and Paul (Debbie Berkut); six beloved grandchildren, Colin, Jonathan (Kristen), Rianne, Patrick, Malia and Maile; and numerous friends. Doc was predeceased by his wife Laurence (née Arpin); son Ronald and little granddaughter, Britta Stanners. A proud member of the Canadian Armed Forces during the Second World War, a dedicated country doctor serving his community and surrounding area for more than 40 years, a municipal official, school division trustee and caisse populaire board member, a devoted husband and father, and proud and loving grandfather, Doc was a kind and generous man who refused to judge others and sought conciliation in all matters. His wisdom and experience has provided mentorship to many and he has touched many lives in one way or another. In his declining years, his health forced him on occasion to be the patient rather than the doctor. His family is grateful for the compassionate care he received from Dr. Viens and the St. Claude Health Centre team, as well as the teams at Notre Dame Hospital, Treherne Hospital, Portage General Hospital and St. Boniface Hospital. We are also forever grateful for the love and support he has received from the entire community of St. Claude whose residents watched over him like guardian angels, allowing him to live in the home he built and cherished until the very end. Funeral services will be held in the St. Claude Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, September 16, 2017. Eulogy and video tribute at 1:30 p.m., followed by Funeral Mass at 2:00 p.m. with Mgsr. Roger Bazin officiating. Interment will take place in the St. Claude Parish Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the St. Claude Health District Foundation, P.O. Box 400, St. Claude, MB R0G 1Z0. Adam's Funeral Home of Notre Dame de Lourdes, Manitoba in care of arrangements. Phone 204-248-2201 or 1-888-400-2326. For more information and condolences, please visit www.afh.ca
