ROBERT JAMES CUBBIDGE 1945 - 2017 Robert passed away peacefully after a long illness at the St. Boniface Hospital on September 14, 2017. Born in England, Robert moved to Winnipeg at a young age and was raised by his mother in the city's west end. He was predeceased by his mother Alice Cubbidge and is survived by numerous friends and his much loved dog Ollie. Robert was a life-long social justice advocate and peace activist. He worked throughout his life for fairness for all citizens and was a staunch supporter of social programs such as Medicare. He was employed as a gardener by the city's Parks and Recreation Department for over 35 years, working at the Assiniboine Park Conservatory, the English Garden and the witch's hut in West Kildonan Park. He loved gardening and the joy that plants brought to people. Robert was an accomplished snooker player and hosted many eight ball matches in his Hart Avenue billiard parlour. Taking money off of his friends was a special delight. Throughout his life, his dogs were an ever-present source of joy and comfort. Long walks in the park with his walking stick and his dogs were part of his daily routine. Sincere thanks to Dr. James Langridge for his friendship and guidance.
