KATHERINE ANN DANKEWICH
Born: Apr 11, 1952
Date of Passing: Sep 14, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKATHERINE ANN DANKEWICH Kathy died peacefully at the Victoria General Hospital on September 14, 2017. Predeceased by her parents Katherine (Furgala) and Stephan Dankewich, and sister-in-law Rosemary Dankewich, Kathy is survived by her brother Timothy, special friend Fred Alaggia, extended family and close nursing/health care friends. Kathy was born in Winnipeg on March 11, 1952. Following high school at St. Mary's Academy, she earned her Bachelor of Nursing at the University of Manitoba, later achieving a Master of (Health) Education from the same university. She was employed as a Clinical Nurse Specialist and educator at St. Boniface General Hospital. In 2001, Kathy was diagnosed with a rare progressive lung disease (Lymphangioleiomyomatosis - LAM), which forced her early retirement. Kathy dedicated her failing energies to maintaining an independent lifestyle and volunteering with LAM Canada until earlier this year. She remained in her own home throughout, being admitted to the Victoria Emergency less than a day prior to her death. Kathy had a strong faith and maintained close ties to the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church. She was a warm, fun-loving person and loyal friend who did not allow circumstances to interfere with her life. Kathy will be remembered fondly by her many good friends and supporters. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations may be made to the LAM Foundation at https://www.thelamfoundation.org/Newly-Diagnosed/More-Resources/US-LAM-Clinics. A private funeral service for Kathy will be held at a later date at Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Kathy and I became friends while at University. She had a remarkable insight and humour to match. Diligent, conscientious and sustained a deep faith - all those qualities describe a beautiful person. Rest in peace and until we meet again! - Posted by: Frances Everett (Friend) on: Sep 29, 2017

I worked with Kathy at St. Boniface Hospital. We shared an office for several years and became friends. My thoughts and prayers are with you Timothy. - Posted by: Marilyn Strilec (Friend /Co worker) on: Sep 26, 2017

I worked with Kathy many years ago. She was a wonderful person and I feel blessed to have known her. We lost touch over the last few years, but I will never forget what a true friend she was to me. My thoughts and prayers are with you Timothy. - Posted by: Betty McKenzie (Friend./co-worker) on: Sep 23, 2017
