GORDON HEATHCOTE WILSON April 19, 1931 - October 1, 2017 After earning the right to rest, Gord passed peacefully, with his wife and children at his side. He was Winnipeg's best kept secret. His intelligence, kindness, thoughtfulness and charm were just a few of his many attributes. Gord was immensely proud of his children and adored spending time with his grandchildren. He was blessed with a one-of-a-kind mind and was often the smartest one in the room. He was always generous with his time, especially when it came to family and friends. A voracious reader with a natural curiosity, he had an appetite for knowledge on innumerable topics. Happiness was a comfortable chair, a good book and a view. As a result, he had a keen grasp of current events, scientific facts, trivia and random oddities. Gord had a fantastic sense of humour and a keen wit. He could be counted on for a great conversation. When you spoke to him, it was a real connection, he focused entirely on you and made you feel like the most interesting person in the world. If asked, each of his children would tell you they were secretly his favorite. After a successful career in sales, he "retired" by working as a golf course marshal, car dealership shuttle van driver and wine store clerk. He proudly shared his home-made wine and named each vintage after family. A self-appointed food critic, he was also an adventurous home chef who was constantly in search of new and exciting dishes or restaurants. Gord enjoyed his daily ration of one generous ounce of fine (but not too fine, let's be reasonable) single malt scotch. He was a casual astronomer and bird watcher, and enthusiastically tackled crossword puzzles. He enjoyed watching and playing golf, including shooting a hole-in-one, and was a fan of hockey, football, baseball and horse racing. He was very grateful to have lived a long, complete life filled with unique and interesting experiences. He leaves an amazing legacy of family and friends who will continue to share his passion for life, enjoyment of a good cup of coffee on a nice day, marvelling at the mysteries of the universe, appreciating all the world has to offer, and spending time together. He will be profoundly and forever missed by his wife Gayle, children Dean, Andrea (David), Jeff, Scott (Stacy) and Amy (Jeff) and grandchildren Jakob, Kendra, Mitchell, Isla and Elin. Though his life was full, we feel empty without him. A small, private service will take place and his ashes will be scattered off his favorite dock overlooking the most beautiful spot in the world. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. His family pledges to live by his two rules: 1) Don't sweat the small stuff. 2) It's all small stuff. E.J. COUTU & CO. FUNERAL DIRECTORS 204-253-5086

Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • In 1953 and 1954, Gordon, Lorena, Doug and I spent many good times together. We played cards, went to stock car races, walks in he park, and many Sunday evenings eating Mom Vaughan's fabulous dinners. But if it wasn't for a job change for Doug, we would have had a double wedding. Many years have flowed under the bridge, but memories of those good times still linger. Rest in peace Gordon. - Posted by: irene vaughan () on: Oct 11, 2017
