AUBREY MACKINNON WALTERS April 1, 1918 - October 2, 2017 Peacefully on Monday, October 2, 2017, the twinkle in Aubrey's baby blue eyes faded as he transitioned from his physical life to the afterlife. Aubrey was predeceased by Eileen, his loving wife of 68 years in 2012; and by his youngest son Kevin in 2014. His memory will be cherished by his children of whom he was so very proud: John (Maureen), Brian (Liz Kozoriz), Carolyn Redekop (Fred) and Sharon, granddaughter Kelly, and daughter-in-law Ginette Lavack. At 99½years old (plus a day), Aubrey led a full life where family, his faith and friendships took priority. His strength of character was formed growing up in a large family in Westville, Nova Scotia and shaped by his experiences in the Second World War and as a prisoner of war. A man of principle, Aubrey's integrity shone through in all of his interactions - from his professional work with the Federal Department of Fisheries; to his volunteer work with The Knights of Columbus and his faith communities; even to his recreational pursuits of curling and golf - the friendships formed remained unwavering and strong. Aubrey focused on the positive in life. He was always kind, with a friendly hello (or hug) to all, always jovial - particularly in his story telling, and always concerned for the well-being of those around him. He was a ray of sunshine and a void has been left in the hearts of those who knew him. In accordance with Aubrey's wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family service will be held to honour his life. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Aubrey's memory to Jocelyn House. E.J Coutu & Co. Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Well today is a sad day for me, as one of my favourite tenant and Friend at Dakota House Aubrey has passed away. I first met Aubrey and Eileen in 2006 when I started working as the Head Chef at Dakota. Aubrey and Eileen were the sweetest couple I have ever met so humble , so kind and very much in love. I would see Aubrey walking with flowers while twirling his cane to bring home to his wife on a weekly basis. He would always have time to say hello , always so positive and had time chat. I remember him telling some war stories to me and life stories. A great Man, great Father , great husband and just a real Gentleman. I'm so sorry for his children's loss but you can bet that Eileen and Aubrey are once again happily together. Rest in Peace Aubrey you were one of kind and will be sadly missed. • Aubrey and Eileen were Norwood neighbors of mine for many years. I would meet them on the street or at church and was struck by their love for each other, their modesty and their kindness to their community. I was struck one Remembrance Day when I asked Eileen how Aubrey had reacted that day and she said he had tears in morning remembering the men who had been killed with him going over on D-Day. I was struck that a man who had lived such horror could be so decent and gentle with all he met. My deepest sympathies to his family. I would have liked to see them honored publicly but know that they left the world a better place and that is their and our reward. - Posted by: Wayne Selby (Friend and former neighbor) on: Oct 07, 2017

  • I will never forget Aubrey. I met him when I started bringing Communion to the wonderful people of Dakota House where he lived at the time. He was always a gentleman and always had a kind word for everybody. You will be greatly missed at Dakota House. Our Condolences to the family. - Posted by: Joanne Roussin (Friend from St. Timothy Parish) on: Oct 07, 2017
