MERILDA BAHNIUK 1929 - 2017 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Merilda Bahniuk of Gimli, Manitoba, formerly of Edmonton, Alberta. On October 15, 2017, she lost her short but courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her children, Doug (Cheryl), Rick (Donna), Nadine (Clarence), Jamie (Kim), Mike (Jen) and Byron (Jen); her sister Helen Kutyn; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mom was predeceased by her husband Paul; son Timothy; parents Albert and Alice Couturier; brother Leo Couturier; and sisters Rose Couturier and Bertha Plypow. Moving to Gimli, Manitoba in 1973, Mom was always sewing, knitting or crocheting something. There was always many projects on the go. Once she moved into Rotary Tower, she met many new friends through her hobbies and her piano playing. She will always be remembered. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 20, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Gimli, Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba. The family would like to thank doctors and staff at the Selkirk Regional Health Centre, Arborg and District Health Centre, Health Sciences Centre, St. Boniface Hospital, Gimli Community Health Centre and the Ambulance staff on all the road trips.
