DOREEN MAY GUENETTE (nee WATKINS) September 19, 1945 - November 13, 2017 It is with grieving hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt Doreen on Monday, November 13, 2017 at Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg, MB. She was predeceased by her husband George, her parents Edward (Ted) and Vivian Watkins, her aunt and uncle May and Floyd Lillies. Her memory will forever be cherished by her children: Michelle Smith (Scott) of Winnipeg, Nicola Beaudry (David) of Minneapolis, Christopher Guenette of Winnipeg, and Brenda Steele (Glenn) of Oak Bluff, and by her grandchildren: Lauren Yerama (Lucas), Ericka Fritzsche (Eric), Brendan Beaudry, Nicole Tweedy, Christian and Jackson Guenette (children of Marilyn Doner), Davina and Mitchell Steele, and great-grandchild Damian Tweedy-Flett. She also leaves behind her sister Marlene Cudmore (Ken) and brother Mervyn Watkins (Peg) of Campbell River, BC. Doreen grew up in Clearwater, MB and moved to Winnipeg where she met her husband George. They married on March 21, 1965 and raised their family in St. Boniface on Eugenie Street. She worked in the kitchen and cafeteria at St. Boniface Hospital for 19 years and retired in 2000. When George passed away, she began the George Guenette Endowment Fund and worked tirelessly to raise funds for Cancer Research. She was an avid sewer, knitter and quilter, gardener and baker. She made treasured keepsakes for family, friends and charities like Blanketing Manitoba and the CancerCare Craft Shop. She loved to travel with her family and friends to England, Hawaii, Dominican Republic, across Canada, and to the beach in the summer. She was especially dedicated to her family and showed by example how to be a good Christian and generous to anyone in need. She actively participated in the lives of her children and grandchildren by having Sunday suppers, birthday parties, playing games, crafting and baking. She and George had a trailer in Petersfield, MB where they enjoyed summers for 25 years. She enjoyed curling at the Fort Garry Curling Club and going to the theatre with her friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Thanks to Dr. Gingerich, Dr. Koul and the wonderful staff at CancerCare Manitoba and at Riverview Health Centre on 3 East Palliative Care Unit. Their special care will always be remembered by her family. Prayer vigil will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at St. Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, 315 Munroe Ave. Funeral Mass will commence on Friday, November 17 at 11:00 a.m. also at the church, followed by a reception and then interment at St. Boniface Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in memory of Doreen can be sent to the George Guenette Endowment Fund at St. Boniface Hospital Foundation.
