DOMENICO ROMANO October 24, 1928 - December 6, 2017 It is with a heavy heart that we announce the sudden passing of Domenico Romano on December 6, 2017. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife of 40 years Anna; his children Frank, Lisa (Pasquale) Idone, Silvana (Jon) Buccini, and his grandson Luca. He also leaves behind his brother Leonardo (Adele) Romano; his sisters Rosa Alecci, Giuditta (Domenico) Corigliano, Immecolata Barbaro and Natalina (Bruno) Zappia and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins in Canada, USA and Italy. He was predeceased by his parents, Francesco and Elisabetta Romano; sisters Concetta Nirta and Maria Bevacqua; brothers-in-law Carmelo Alecci, Giuseppe Barbaro, Bruno Nirta and Domenico Bevacqua, and niece Rita Ferens. Dad was born in Portigliola, Italy on October 24, 1928 and immigrated to Canada in 1955. After a short career as a cook, he opened Don Romano Realty in 1962 on Sargent Ave. helping many Italians and other new immigrants settle into their first homes in Canada. Don Romano Realty became a staple of the West End and he loved it so much that he worked until the very end. Dad had a very pure and loving heart and he was always willing and wanting to help anyone who needed it. He was a very humble man and took great pleasure in the simple things in life, like playing cards with his friends, going to X-Cues for coffee with his son Frank and watching his favourite soccer team, Roma, play. Dad believed in staying both physically and mentally active, eating a bowl of spaghetti every day, and continuing to work so he didn't get old. Dad loved his family more than anything and he was happiest when we were all together. He was so proud of his three children and all of their accomplishments. Watching his family get bigger with the inclusion of his two amazing son-in-laws and then later his grandson Luca brought him great joy. He always said his wife, children and grandson gave him everything he needed in life. Dad was always very involved in the Italian community, serving numerous terms as the President of the Italian Canadian League of Manitoba and the Manitoba Soccer Association; he was a member of the Alpini, the Knights of Columbus, and a former member of the Toastmasters Club. Thank you to Dr. Derksen and the staff at Seven Oaks Emergency for all of their efforts and the kind care they provided to our dad. Pallbearers are his nephews, Dom Zappia, Frank Zappia, Mauro Zappia, Dino Alecci, Giovanni Lagioia, Nick Giancola, Tony Barbaro, Frank Barbaro and Bruno Bevacqua. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 13 at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, 510 River Ave. at 11:00 a.m., with condolences at 10:00 a.m., Rev. Father Sam Argenziano celebrant. Entombment in Chapel of Eternal Memories Mausoleum, 1501 Waverley St. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Domenico's name to the Down Syndrome Society of Manitoba. We miss you and love you so much Papa, and promise to live our lives in the kind and loving way that you always did. • Please accept our sincere and heartfelt condolence to the Romano & Alecci families. Don was a great friend of all the Militano families but especially ours since he was my brother Tony Militano's god-father. It is with deep regret I was unable to attend today's service. I always admired his quiet and kind manner and thoughtful words of encouragement. A respectful man in word and deed it is sad to think of his passing. • We lived next door to the Romano family on Downing Street in the 1970s. They were very good neighbours, kind and generous. Don acted as our real estate agent when we bought a larger home to accommodate our growing family. He was an honest, hard working business man and a good father. He will be missed by family and friends. Our sincere sympathy to Anna, Frankie, Lisa and Silvana and their families. May you be comforted by his love for you and the many memories of good times that you shared with him. - Posted by: Gordon and Marilyn Mutter (Downing Street Neighbours) on: Dec 12, 2017
