Born: Oct 19, 1936
Date of Passing: Dec 25, 2017
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRUTH CAROLINE DE JONG October 19, 1936 - December 25, 2017 With a heavy heart we say goodbye to our mother who passed away quietly on Christmas Day, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Ruth leaves behind her husband of 42 years, Wayne Smith; her daughter Deanna (Jim); sons, David, Darwin and grandchildren, Dalton, Madyson, Alivia and Christian, Michaela, Mathew and Austin; sisters, Glenda Ann, Debbie (Ken), Ruth, Robin (Daryl); brother Larry; numerous nieces and nephews and extended family. She was predeceased by her parents, Jack and Etta Ober; nephew Brian and recently, her son Dan. Ruth was proud of her career as a Registered Nurse; she was also co-owner of Snow Valley Ski Resort and was an amazing artist. She loved to craft, sew and knit; selling her creations at craft sales throughout the city. When she wasn't crafting, she was out on the dance floor square dancing with Wayne, working in her garden, reading and travelling extensively, including their winters in Texas making life long friends wherever they went. But what made Ruth smile more were her grandchildren, they were the light of her life. She will be greatly missed by all those that have known her. Ruth's memory will live on in our hearts forever. Cremation has taken place and Interment will be at a later date.
