CLAUDE JOSEPH BERARD Claude Joseph Berard, 78, lost his battle with cancer at the Health Sciences Centre on December 30, 2017. He will be sadly missed by his son Rod (Lauraine) and their children, Jillian and Brandon. A special thank you goes out to Angelica Thomas, for being such a good friend to him. He was predeceased by his wife Rita, and is survived by his sisters, Yvette Parfitt and Gilberte Champagne; brother Neil Berard; as well as stepchildren, Jo (Pete), Pam and Darryl and their families. Claude was born in Otterburne, MB and moved to Winnipeg as a child, where he lived until his passing. He was a skilled craftsman and displayed the ability to build or fix just about anything. He truly loved riding motorcycles and spending time with the friends who shared that passion. He spent countless weekends watching Jill and Brandon race, throughout Canada and the US. He was so proud of their many accomplishments. In keeping with his wishes, a mass will be said in his honour at Holy Family Church, 778 Archibald St. on Sunday, February 18 at 10:00 a.m. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice in Claude's memory. E.J. COUTU & CO. FUNERAL DIRECTORS 204-253-5086 ejcoutu.com

Condolences & Memories (6 entries)

  • I met Claude at Saint Boniface Cycle many years ago. He was the best bike mechanic I have ever known and also could fabricate and design airboats and wild rice harvesting equipment with his skills. A great man as well, and I was proud to know him way back then. My condolences to his family. - Posted by: Phil Despins (Friend) on: Apr 14, 2019

Sorry I will miss his mass, but will offer many prayers for him, and his family. Beverley Bettens (old friend) - Posted by: Beverley Bettens (Old Friend) on: Jan 08, 2018

We have fond memories of him from the years we spent visiting with he and his brother Gil at St. Boniface Cycle, as well as visits back and forth, card games with he and Rita, and in more recent years, wee e-mails. • Uncle Claude was a special man to me. He always greeted you with the biggest smile for as far back as I can remember. He was always the first to jump up and say give me a hug kid when I ran into him anywhere in public. Rodney and I being so close in age only eight days apart had so many fun times with uncle Claude. I was a girly girl and he was determined to teach me to ride motor bikes (minibikes) and then (dirtbikes) at a young age. He toughened me up and yet had the biggest compassion for me when I fell off. But he taught me not to give up! You will be forever missed! Much love and gratitude for this one of a kind man. Renee Dewar - Posted by: Renee Dewar (Neice) on: Jan 06, 2018
