Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANTONIO (TONY) MIGUEZ Following a long battle with heart failure, it is with great sorrow and heavy hearts the Miguez family announces the peaceful passing of our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, mentor, and friend, Antonio (Tony) Gerardo Miguez, at Grace Hospice, on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at the age of 89. While family stood at his side Dad was gently taken away and welcomed through the gates of Heaven. Dad will forever be remembered by everyone as a kind, caring, giving, and sharing family man who had a strong work ethic and was always available and willing to help. Born in Winnipeg on December 14, 1928, Dad was the youngest of 13 children born to Antonio and Elvira Miguez. He worked in the family refuse business for 22 years then in a supervisory position with the City of Winnipeg for 24 years before retiring in 1988. Over the years he taught himself everything from handyman work to mechanics. In retirement, he became an excellent woodworker building many pieces of lawn furniture for family and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Shirley (Ginger), parents Antonio and Elvira, brothers Art, Joe, Alf and George, and sisters Nina and Pillar. Dad will be lovingly remembered by children Rosemary (Jim), Mike (Alisha), Joe (Daren), Laura (Rob) and Mark (Joanne); eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; brother and best friend Fred, sister Mary, as well as many nephews, nieces and extended family. The family is sincerely thankful for the care and compassion shown to Dad over the past 19 months by special people in the health care field. They include Dr. Tam, his team, and the Cardiac staff at St. Boniface Hospital; Christine Hayden at Brathwaite's Pharmacy who went above and beyond in assisting us with Dad's medication during part of the journey; the kind, attentive, staff on 3-East at Riverview Health Centre who not only cared for Dad but helped assess his condition and provide direction; and the entire loving staff at Grace Hospice whose unwavering tender care, kindness, and gentle interaction were ever present throughout his final months. The family also wishes to express gratitude and Thank You to everyone who made phone calls, visits, and offered support during Dad's stay at Riverview and Grace Hospice. All were very much appreciated by Dad. The 'Candy Man' will enjoy handing out Werther's Original energy pills in Heaven. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 23, 2017 in the Canad Inns Destination Centre Polo Park, 1405 St. Matthews Avenue. Friends and relatives are encouraged to share in a photo-tribute, stories, and condolences for the family by visiting Tony's memorial page at IntegrityDeathCare.com In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. On behalf of Pat and I, I want to say how much he meant to us. Tony came into my life as a teenager, and I'll never forget Mom smiling telling me that she was going out on a date with a 'garbage man'. He made an enormous difference to our family. Tony was always there with a comforting ear and a cheery smile, he bailed me out of various youthful escapades and provided Mom with the warmth and support she needed, particularly as her health failed. Tony took us under his wing. God Bless you and keep you close, Tony. - Posted by: Darlene Searcy (Friend) on: Jan 17, 2018

Yes, he certainly was the "candy man" and so much more to me. He is in my earliest memories. My dad, Fred and his brother Tony were always together. If there was a problem dad couldn't fix you would find Uncle Tony waist deep in the engine figuring out how to fix it. There wasn't much the two of them together couldn't fix. Sunday's for me was the time to see Uncle Tony, then Auntie Mary, then Auntie Nina and then Auntie Pilar. It was there, that I would be waiting for dad to pick me up. He will be forever in my heart. - Posted by: Bobbie (niece) on: Jan 13, 2018
