Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN HARMATSKI July 18, 1929 - January 10, 2018 It is with saddened hearts that the family announces the passing of John Harmatski, at the age of 88. He passed away peacefully at the Betel Personal Care Home in Gimli, MB with family at his side. John leaves to mourn his wife Helen of 62 years, along with their children, Eileen (Melvin), Ernie, Ervin (Cindy), Valerie (Ivan), Lynn, Shelley (Sue), and Gary (Katlyn); sister Anne; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Lawrence; parents and sister Mary. John was born in the Wroxton, SK area to parents, Simeon and Eudochia (Dora). After making the move to Dauphin, MB, he met the love of his life and began raising a family. Dad was a hardworking man with a kind heart and gentle soul, never hesitating to help another. He had a passion for building and fixing things, taking great pride in his 1978 red Ford truck and riding his Beachcomber bicycle. He loved his dogs and birds, Ukrainian music, cooking, was an avid hockey fan, and would never pass up on a good ol' Fair ride, as he was always a kid at heart. Most of all, he enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends. He was a religious and spiritual man, always thanking the Lord for everything. After retiring, John and Helen made the move to Winnipeg Beach in 2000, where they met many new and dear friends. Their new neighbours, John (predeceased) and Angie Skoryk quickly became special lifelong friends, and have been like family to all of us. Our sincerest thanks to the Betel Personal Care Home staff and doctors in Gimli for the wonderful care John/Dad received. Cremation has taken place. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 27 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Ukrainian Catholic Church in Gimli, MB. Condolences may be left at www.gilbartfuneralhome.com. Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements.
