BENJAMIN HEWAK November 12, 1935 - December 21, 2017 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Benjamin (Ben) Hewak on December 21, 2017 at Grace Hospital. Ben was a beloved husband to Ramonda (Mona); a dedicated, loving father to his daughters Debbie (by whom he was predeceased), Donna (Gary Prost) and Darcy; and devoted grandfather to his only grandson, Nicholas. He will also be missed by his dog, QB. Ben was predeceased by his parents Stephanie and Mike, and by his only brother, Wally. He was born in Winnipeg in November of 1935, and was a man of strong faith that guided his life and how he saw and treated others. One of Dad's brightest life moments was when he welcomed his first grandson, Nicholas, into this world in March of 2003. He was a very proud Didu, indeed. Ben was an avid sports fan and enjoyed going to Winnipeg Jets games, stemming back to the WHA when he had season tickets with his son-in-law Gary. He was also a Winnipeg Blue Bombers fan and enjoyed the games with his good friends Nate and Don in the Press box. Dad was a voracious reader, and immensely enjoyed Ukrainian dancing and Ukrainian music. He enjoyed getting together with other retired judges once a month, and his weekly highlight was to meet up with his children and grandson for breakfast Saturdays. The family would like to offer heartfelt thanks to all the doctors, nurses, and health care aides of 4 South and the ICU at Grace Hospital. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in Ben's memory can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3; to the Holy Family Home building fund, c/o Lubov SSMI Foundation, 1085 Main St., Winnipeg, MB R2W 3S1; or to a charity of your choice. Funeral services were held on December 29 and 30, 2017, at Sts. Volodymyr and Olha Ukrainian Catholic Church, led by Rt. Rev. Msgr. Michael Buyachok. Cremation has taken place and interment will be arranged at a later date. "Dad, you will be missed every moment of every day. We will never stop loving you." There are certain people in life that one doesn't have a long history with but leave you with a good feeling! I can't pinpoint when I first met Ben but I believe it was when competing against him in high school football. Ben was a pleasant, confident person who always treated me with warmth and respect. It has been about 60 years since I last saw Ben but he is one of those people that I held in great respect. My condolences to all of Ben's family! - Posted by: John Rendall (Acquaintance friend) on: Jan 20, 2018
