EVALINE (EVELYN) GRACE BELL (nee PARSONS) September 2, 1923 - January 13, 2018 After living an incredible life of more than 94 years of dignity, strength, and grace our beloved mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend Evelyn has passed on. As was always her way she danced right up to her final days. Evelyn was predeceased by her husband Malcolm (1963 at age 39), parents Edward and Lillian Parsons, son-in-law Bob Matthes, and recently, sister Joyce Henderson. She leaves behind a wonderful legacy to carry on her spirit and zest for life, seven children: Randy (Lorenda), Sidney, Alexandra (Don), Jim (Inga), Don (Janice), Gerry (Janice) and Harold (Barbara); 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, sister Genevieve Swartman, and brother George Parsons. Evelyn was raised in the West End of Winnipeg, where going to school, the movies, singing and playing piano were her interests in her early years. She met and fell in love with Malcolm when he was stationed in Canada for his training with the R.A.F. Both served in the Second World War - with Mom working in New York and Washington, DC. Following the war, they started a family which grew to seven strong. Most of the family's life was spent growing up in Elmwood in a small house on Martin Avenue. Mom was a devout student of Christian Science and embraced its teachings from an early age. Her strong faith and her church were the cornerstone of her life. She worked as a secretary, a court reporter, and special examiner. Upon retiring she served as a nurse in association with her church in New Jersey, Victoria and New York. As part of her incredible legacy, to name a few of her favourites, Mom instilled in all of her family: a love of theatre, art, music, world travel, sewing and needle arts, rock hunting, reading, crosswords, and sketching. Our family would like to extend a special thanks and appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff at Dakota House, Riverview Health Centre, Heritage Lodge, and Southeast Personal Care Home for the loving care they provided our Mom. Cremation has taken place and a private family gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice or initiate an act of kindness on her behalf. E.J. • Aunt Evie—what a GRAND lady she was! I feel so lucky to have been part of the Bell clan get-together just before the New Year, when Aunt Evie, at 94 years, sat down at the piano and played for us all! I hope she and my mom (her baby sister) are enjoying their new "world travels" together. Much love to all my cousins and their families! Lisa - Posted by: Lisa Henderson (niece) on: Jan 22, 2018
