IRMA ANNIE CHITTICK
Date of Passing: Jan 20, 2018
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryIRMA ANNIE CHITTICK 1916 - 2018 After living an incredible life of more than 101 years of dignity, strength, grace and tremendous love of her family, our beloved mom, grandmother and great-grandmother and friend, passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2018. She was predeceased by her husband Floyd Chittick and all her siblings. She leaves behind a wonderful legacy to carry on her spirit and strength in her sons, Frank (Carolyn), Brian (Sharon), Marvin (Joan) and daughter Marlene. She also leaves behind her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she loved unconditionally. Irma grew up in Ridgedale, Saskatchewan and met her husband there. When Floyd went off to war, Irma joined the Royal Canadian Air Force and served in Canada as a nursing assistant. Upon returning from the war in 1945, Irma and Floyd were married and later moved to Winnipeg to raise their young family. Once the children were in school, Irma attended nursing school and with a husband and four young children to look after, she excelled in her nursing course, graduating top of her class and her children were and are very proud of her. She went on to work as a nurse at the old Victoria Hospital and later at Luther Home. Irma was a very strong, independent and loving individual. She loved her family and friends unconditionally and always gave freely of her time and belongings to those in need. Everyone who met her along her life's journey loved her. She believed exercise was the reason she lived so long (and was able to deliver newspapers at Lion's Manor in Selkirk until she was 98 years old!) and was determined to walk again after breaking a hip at 99, and walk she did! She valued her time and friends in Lion's Manor in Selkirk and the people she met in Betel Home in Selkirk. We hope there is a Bingo Game happening in heaven... if there is she'll be there, and if there isn't, she'll be organizing one! The void left in our lives by mom's passing will never be filled, but we are so thankful and happy to have had such a caring and wonderful woman as our mom. Farewell mom, we all love you! The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to all the staff at Betel Home, Selkirk for their care, compassion and friendship during Mom's stay there. At Irma's request, no formal funeral service will be held. Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held in May 2018. Condolences may be left at www.gilbartfuneralhome.com Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
