ALEXANDER (ALEX) CRAWFORD It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alexander (Alex) Crawford. Alex lost his hard-fought battle with cancer on Tuesday, January 30, 2018. Alex was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, January 25, 1936. He immigrated to Winnipeg, Canada, June 27, 1964 along with his young family and with aspirations of a better future for his children. Alex was a true patriarch to his large, expanding family. He established strong bonds with each of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His morals and humanism were his beacons of light and will be his legacy. He loved to RV in the summer to Alberta and BC to visit family. He loved to sit and read for hours in the English Garden at Assiniboine Park. He was an avid cyclist. In his younger days he cycled across Ireland, leaving for days and staying in hostels along the way. He played many a sport, a true athlete. He loved the game of soccer, his favourite teams being the Whitecaps and Manchester United...and others. Alex is survived by his sister and brother-in-law (Marjorie, Norval Jury), Mary Crawford (estranged wife), his children, Caroline, Janette, Tony (Tracy) and Elaine (James). His grandchildren (Shanon, Sean (Trudy), Amanda (Dan), Alexander, Ashley, Michael (Samantha), Brennan, Ryan, and Taylor), great-grandchildren (Alyssa, Braedyn, Kaelum, Cohen, Billie-Anne, Jude, and Kylie), along with several nieces and nephews. Alex is predeceased by his mother Evangeline (Eva), father Alexander (Sandy), sisters (Isabel, Evelyn, and Berta), granddaughter (Ceara) and great-granddaughter (Chiara). The family would like to thank Dr. Joel Gingerich and Cheryl Grieves (CancerCare Manitoba), the palliative care staff at Riverview Health Centre and the Grace Hospice for their compassion and care of our father. Thank you to the Reh-fit Centre and a special thank you to JP for being a special friend. In lieu of flowers, please support CancerCare Manitoba. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will take place shortly, date and location TBD. KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL (204) 956-2193 www.korbanchapel.com

Condolences & Memories (2 entries)

  • Dad I will truly miss your sound advise and the busy traffic phone calls we had over the years. I know how much you loved us all. You showed me how to be a hard working person with great work ethics. I know how much you enjoyed have you kids around you. You were the staple that held everything together for us all. You were the most honest and helpful person I have ever met. As I told you many times, I'm so glad you had Caroline, Jannett, Elaine and James around you all the time. I could see in all the pictures how much love was around you all. As you always said you had a fourth daughter as well who loved you very much. Tracy was heart broken when you passed. That shows how much of an amazing father you were. If I can be half the man you were I will be totally satisfied with my life. I'm so lucky to have had such an amazing role model to follow into adulthood. I love you Daddio and will miss you very much. - Posted by: Tony (Son) on: Feb 20, 2018
